Palit GTX 460 768MB Problems

Hi,

Last week I purchased a Palit GTX 460 768MB, and ever since I installed it, it has given me nothing but headaches.

It randomly freezes on Windows login, and if it doesn't, it freezes on the launch of a game or 3D Application. Even sometimes with Windows Aero.

I'm tech savvy, so I troubleshooted as best I could, trying every available driver on the NVIDIA site, doing a safe mode driver sweep between each install. I've tried using both onboard and PCI audio cards, but the problem persists. I've tried every suggested solution I can find online to no avail.

What do you guys think? Dodgy card?

Is the card still in warranty? Could you return it and get a replacement.

Just out of interest what temperatures is it running at? Could be overheating.

If you are lucky to be in the position of access to a second machine then:

460 in second PC
Alternative card in current PC
Alternative PSU in current PC ( not quite thesame but; unplug all accessories except required bits to test card in current PC).

With 3d or something exciting happening the card must will be changing modes between 2d and 3d. This will result in extra voltage and heat and *may* be responsible. Whats with the audio cards?

Sounds like you have tried most things already.

I would get rid of the overclock on the CPU to give the PSU some more headroom in case the PSU is marginal. It shouldn't be, but hey its an easy test.

If that doesn't cure it, time for an RMA :(.

The only way it is stable is running driver 259.32 which was a WHQL Dell Driver from what I gather.

So it's definitely a driver issue, and not a problem with the card, or my system.
