Four Monitors - One Card!

Was quite excited about this when Hexus TV did a feature back at CES, and it's currently available at retail:

Sapphire FleX 5770

You can use both DVIs and the HDMI simultaneously without an active dongle to get 3 way eyefinity, and you can hook up an active dongle (e.g. the £20 sapphire one ) - or a native DP monitor, obviously - to the DP to get a 4-way set up from a single card. Sure you pay a premium over a standard 5770, but some might say that £50 was worth it to get 4 DVI monitors running off a single card...

Daft question, but couldn't you use a newer 6850 with two active dongles on the mini dp ports and get the same setup. Granted, slightly more expensive but might be able to cope with the 4 screens a little better...

Probably, I guess. There's also meant to be some kind of break-out box coming to power more screens, and DP 1.2 allows daisy-chaining on compatible monitors - alhthough these are few and far between, AFAIK. I guess the bigger selling point for the Sapphire implementation is that it allows the connection of 3 screens without any active dongles, which I believe the 6-series still can't do.

Certainly you couldn't game across 4 screens on a 5770 (well, you could, but I don't think it'd look very good ), but it would be good for running productivity set ups, particularly on machines with no onboard gfx and only one PCIe slot...
