Sounds like quite a substantial performance boost, however im a bit concerned about the power usage... <300W TDP i presume it would be like 290w then but the 5870 is only ~188w right? Thats a big increase, i guess it was hard to avoid this though since they havent been able to shrink the die.
Yes, that's certainly a lot of power (and heat). I hope they don't make a Fermi.

Sounds like 2 beefed-up 5870s on a single card, 4870x2 style (did not appear as crossfire to system)
