Hey guys I just updated my system but Im still looking for a new GPU now I've got a Budget of around £200 so im looking to upgrade my GPU from my ageing 4850?

My question is whats the best GPU to get for that price at the moment or should I wait until the new ATI card are released

Re: New GPU buy now or wait for 69XX series

    5870 for £225
    GTx470 for £180

GTX is slightly slower (say upto 15% depending on the game, sometimes it's level with the 5870) and produces more heat and noise during load only , but it's £45 less....so take your pick

Re: New GPU buy now or wait for 69XX series

The 69x0 cards are unlikely to fall into the £200 price bracket, since the 6870 is already at around about that price for the OC models, so it's unlikely that their launch will move the prices of cards currently in that bracket. Personally I'd go for a 6870 at that price point, although a superclocked variant o fthe GTX460 1GB is also an option...

Go for a 6870, its a great card that can be had for under £200. Ive just got one and it was a top purchase. Well worth the cash.

Every time a new generation of GFX cards comes out, people say this and every time I say the same thing. By the time the replacements arrive, the older cards have already dropped in price.
I know this as I once got caught out thinking the same thing!

I would wait until the new year tbh.

Not a lot will be happening for the next few weeks, once the new year kicks off I am sure prices will start moving again.

I am currently slumming it on a GTS 250 atm while waiting for the new year.....I am sure you could manage on a 4850

Re: New GPU buy now or wait for 69XX series

I'm looking for a new card for my new gaming rig and am waiting for the 69XX but I think they will be above the £200 you mention. One thing to keep in mind is that the VAT increases in the New Year and I don't know how that will affect the pricing, if it does...

Re: New GPU buy now or wait for 69XX series

Well, I have to get rid of my current 4870 in the next week or two hence the rush for a new card. Measured my case today and 2 x 6870 cards would mean an issue with the number of sata connectors that I need so I either go for 2 x 6850's (tight but should fit) or get a single big card.

Just hope the specs come up quickly so I can work out which 69XX card will fit.

Re: New GPU buy now or wait for 69XX series

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/248887 ATI 5870 is currently selling for £194.97 which is a quite a good price and would perform better than 6870.

    Hope this helps.
