Looking for a graphics card for around £200
Hi all, I'm looking into upgrading my graphics card. I have around £200 to spend. My current graphics card is still quite decent however it's starting to struggle playing the latest games in 3D which is what I want it for. I'm using the iz3D driver at present. I have no preference really as to whether its ATI or nVidea, just what evers best for that price. I'm thinking an nVidea card may be best if I later decide to buy the 3D vision kit though. My current specs are below. Thanks for your help.
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 945 3.00GHz (Socket AM3) Processor
ASRock M3A770DE AMD770 (Socket AM3) DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard
OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit
Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Windows 7 64bit
Re: Looking for a graphics card for around £200
I'd suggest waiting 2-3 weeks before buying a new graphics card, NVIDIA's going to be releasing the GTX570 in a few days and ATI are going to release the 69xx series this month too AFAIK.
Re: Looking for a graphics card for around £200
I can't afford the latest card but would this reduce prices of old ones I presume?

Usually does yeah :). I was gonna buy the a GTX460 from Scan but I've decided to wait until the new cards are out to reassess my position.
Re: Looking for a graphics card for around £200
Thanks for your replies. I was just wondering what the equivalent nividea card is to what I have now.
Also, is there a major difference in quality between ATI and nvidea, as there's a a huge difference in price. By the looks of things I could get the latest ATI Radeon HD for around £200, but the latest nvidea will set me back about £500.
I'll probably wait around a few days anyway. Sorry I'm new to all this lol, but picking it up quite fast.

nVidia GTX 580: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.ph...=27307&page=10
AMD Radeon 6870: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.ph...=27053&page=12
The 6870 is a far worse card than the 580 (they aren't meant to be competing with each other), a more accurate comparison would be the 5870 or the 5970.
From the current generation of AMD cards, the 6970 would be a good comparison.

The closest to a GTX580 from ATI is the 5970. These aren't in stock, because they will soon be outdated.
Although the ATI 6870 represents excellent value for money. The GTX 580 is roughly 50% faster (than the 6870), but 150% more expensive.
The ATI 6850 isn't too far behind, and offers even better value for money, at £141.

I forgot to mention what PSU I have. Got a OCZ OCZ400SXS-UK StealthXStream 400W Silent ATX2.2 Power Supply. Whats the maximum graphics card I could use with this? Its 400W but not sure how I check this on the cards description.

Depends on whether you want to wait, but the price cuts appear to be here already.

You can get an HD5870 1GB for around £190:

The HD6870 1GB does have slightly better tessellation performance but is nearly 10% slower.

For the love of goodness, start posting in threads related to your posts. Please?
Re: Looking for a graphics card for around £200
that power consumption chart is furmark only and does not stress the CPU.
It is annoying having threads rezzed and I think he was bunked back to 0 posts.
