BSOD, ATI HD3400, ati2dvag problems...
Ongoing problem, it seems that hundreds of souls suffer with this and ATI has declined to help or even acknowlegde that there is a problem (allegedly!!).
I tried everything I knew to fix it, and came up with nothing, until I found a page online that offered an alternative set of drivers, and at the moment I am stable.
Omega : http://www.omegadrivers.net/index.ph....442&Itemid=65
The only prob so far is that I can't seem to find the right command to clone my LCD monitor on to my LCD TV. Anyone got any experience with this set and any ideas ?
I'm gonna have to go back to nVidia if I can't solve this, and so far there's been no response in the ATI section of HeXus.
Re: BSOD, ATI HD3400, ati2dvag problems...
I had this problem for weeks and it was down to the last 2 revisions of the 10.x Catalyst Suite of drivers. The only way I got rid of it was by firstly uninstalling the ATI catalyst driver suite, running Driver Sweeper to delete all ATI drivers, delete both ATI entries in regedit under hkey current user and hkey local machine and finally checking that there were no files called ATI*.* in either C:\windows, C:\Windows\system32 and C:\Windows\System32\drivers.
After a few reboots to check al these files were gone as sometimes these files would refuse to go I then installed the latest 11.1a drivers and touch wood my pc hasnt had the BSOD in over 2 days now whereas it used to BSOD at least every hour.
Re: BSOD, ATI HD3400, ati2dvag problems...
thanks for that egg :) I'll look into that in a week or so, see how these omega driivers work out first.
Ive solved the clone part at least - I needed to set my main LCD monitor to 1024x768, THEN clone, it wont work if I try to clone at 1440x900. I also needed to set it to "Force TV detection" and load the ATI Tray at startup.
So far, so good.

and fail.
Now even the alternative drivers are crashing, which heavily hints at hardware failure, so Im ditching the ATI card and am going to go for a new nVidia.
Re: BSOD, ATI HD3400, ati2dvag problems...
FYI the following post turned out to be false; I just got another ATI1dvag.dll crash. Clearly it didn't fix anything.
[[[[Late as it is to say it but I had this problem myself and so far I can tell it seems as though I've fixed it. I found that the ati2dvag.dll file was in Windows\System32, once I had uninstalled Catalyst etc. through Add/Remove programs uninstaller (which I think is more thorough than the uninstall option from the Catalyst installer) I could see the properties on the file without the computer instantaneously BSODing.
It was listed as last modified in 2009 indicating that updating the drivers didn't update ATi2dvag.dll (I had updated drivers many times since then).
Since I had previously installed the latest drivers I had the extracted files for Catalyst etc. If you go there (e.g. for me it was C:\ATi\Support\11-1 etc.) and search for files named ATi2dvag you will find "ATi2dvag.dl_"
I renamed that to ATi2dvag.dll
Basically what you want to do is replace the file in System32 with the one from the extracted stuff from the installer. But... You can't do that while Windows is running because it's a system file (technically I didn't try but I'd be floored if you could).
So you use something like the boot disc for Norton Ghost 12 to do it which is what I did; booted up the Norton Ghost boot disc, went to the file explorer function and used the copy and paste function.
I did this while the drivers were uninstalled. When I booted up Windows again the resolution went from 1024x780 or something like that to something like 600x480 and down to 16 colours or something like that. I reinstalled the drivers. Everything was fine.

Re: BSOD, ATI HD3400, ati2dvag problems...
Thanks Adam, always useful to find fixes even if it is too late, there are a load of guys in other forums with the same problem so next time I'm in them I'll pass this on .....
What date does ati2dvag say now ?
Re: BSOD, ATI HD3400, ati2dvag problems...
I'm sorry, I went off half cocked (see my edit to my original post). In the end it didn't actually fix the problem. For a while there it didn't crash even when I did things which had always crashed the computer before. But in the end it did BSOD and complain about an infinite loop occuring with respect to ATI2dvag.dll (and it was particularly bad this morning when I logged into XP and tried to reply only to have the computer crash twice - though it didn't blue screen, and once it just sat there and wouldn't do anything except move the mouse cursor such that I might even have more than one problem just for fun).
At the moment the last modified date on the file is Jan 11th 2011 I think (I'm not at home at the moment, in any case it was mid January 2011). There are versions of the file elsewhere on the computer but they mostly seem to be backups (e.g. from installing XP Service Pack 3) so they don't seem to be relevant.
For the moment I'm just trying to isolate the cause proper. I had a spare partition so I have installed Win7 on it and yesterday and had the computer play music all day with the visualisations running (the kaleidascope-type thing that you can get Windows Media Player to display) trying to work the 2d aspect of the card. It hasn't crashed yet. That's not yet conclusive though.
