What PSU do you have ATM??
What system do you have ATM and what resolution are you playing at??
Guru3D did a side-by-side review of the 560Ti and the HD6950 1GB, they seem very close. the Radeon seems a little noisier, but slightly faster in some cases. honestly id go for whatever is cheapest, unless noise is a big thing for you.
cant post the URL cos im new here, but its easy to find on the site if your interested (google "guru3d")
Apart from Cat's questions, remember that the 6950 can in most cases be unlocked to a 6970 with a BIOS flash.
Society's to blame,
Or possibly Atari.
Just come across this...

It's American ($), but otherwise it's just a comparison by card. May not be of any help to you, but hey ho...

Sorry not replied as been away....
Thanks Cat, my PSU is 550 watt and res using is 1280x1024. Current card is HD 4870, most games running ok by am restricted to direct x 10.
Thanks for the other info guys.....![]()
At that resolution either card will be totally overkill and dx11 is largely irrelevant atm.
Until you get a bigger screen/more dx 11 titles come out the 4870 will cope admirably. Also depending upon the quality/age of the PSU you have you might need to buy a better one. You could always buy a cheap 4870 and xfire them if your motherboard supports it.![]()
This. A £90 5750 would be fine at that res, and that would actually be a downgrade from your 4870. A new graphics card is pointless for you until either you get a new monitor or your 4870 dies a horrible flamey death.
If you've got a mad upgrade yearning and a couple of hundred to spend think about getting an SSD as a boot drive instead: it'll give you noticable gains in general system responsiveness - or alternatively post up the rest of your rig spec and we'll pick it apart for you![]()
Thanks for that, my monitor does support 1600x1024 and higher but run at lower res for improved frame rates. Was going to replace mobo and go Sandy Bridge but am waiting for Bulldoser and see which way then. I have a Amd 4800x2 cpu and 2 gig of ram running win 7. System struggles a bit and will change mobo and Gpu soon but not sure which way to go AMD or the Green guys??
Many thanks..![]()
Hmmm, I'd suggest a subsystem upgrade before a graphics upgrade then, tbh. You will end up bottlenecking DX11 games on an Athlon X2, whereas if you stick with a lower resolution your 4870 will be OK for a while.
Of course, once you upgrade your graphics you will be able to play your games at native res and still get good framerates![]()
if u considering to see Bulldoser, not getting SB and new mobo.
i suggest that get a monitor (i love bigger screen) upgrade which it a good way if u not a heavy gamer. if u are, upgrade with a HD6950 2G version and flash the BIOS.
Since the monitor now is cheap at 23", the upgrade will make a big different to even on web surfing and movie watching!
And upgrade to 4G Ram too, 2 gig is too less.
Definitely get a bigger monitor, 24" minimum with 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 resolution, quite a few good deals atm...Then get a flashable 6950 and you will be sorted for a few years at least
Got a HD6950 today, well happy. Can get all games at full spec 1600x1200. Monitor is vison master pro 413 17'' crt....
Will get better screen soon with hdmi 1.4 input, this card does 3D as well. Thanks to all for contributing your advice, next upgrade will be mobo Bulldoser or SB??? Time to start saving...
Take it easy.....![]()
