Thumbs down ATi / AMD Driver 11.1

Just in case anyone is having any issues with their drivers recently.

My twin 5870s were very happy on the 10.12 drivers; when I updated to 11.1 they ran like a three-legged dog on stilts and eventually crashed out.

Went back to 10.12 and calm is restored, silky BC2 rates no prblem at all. I don't know what they changed, but the 11.1 set does seem to be very much aimed at the 6xxx series, and actually detrimental to the 5xxx series.

If you're having any troubles with your 5870, 10.12 is a much, much better set.

Thanks for the heads up. I've not bothered updating out of laziness, but I think I'll wait for 11.2.

Re: ATi / AMD Driver 11.1

L4D2 was showing blocky smoke/gore and failed to draw any fire under 11.1. Quite annoying as you don't know when you're about to run through a blazing inferno. Just installed 10.12 and it seems to be back to normal.

    This is on a 5850.

EDIT: dodgy ram OC. Mine can't cope with 1200. Dropping it to 1180 works fine (not sure about 1190).

I think I'll be staying with the 10.12 for a while. Runs like a dream.

Re: ATi / AMD Driver 11.1

Cheers for the info - currently on 11.1 myself and about to go CF, so may think to jump back to 10.12 instead.

Re: ATi / AMD Driver 11.1

Out of interest, what driver versions are 6950 owners running? I recommended a friend get one, but in the machine it is intended for it runs like integrated graphics despite there seeming to be nothing wrong with any of the hardware.

Re: ATi / AMD Driver 11.1

Update: 11.2 is fine. Seems perfectly stable, but at the first hint of trouble I'm off back to 10.12
