    GTX280 to 5850 ?

    As title,

thinking i prefer ATi for the easy sound over HDMI, think its worth going to a 5850 from the GTX280 ?

I guess my max budget would be £120ish so I am buying a used card anyway.

GTX4/500 do sound over HDMI as well.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: GTX280 to 5850 ?

Went form a 260 to a 5850; Decent upgrade. I suppos the joy of the 5850 is they scale very well so you can just run it at 5870 speeds.

I suppose it depends how much you can get for your 280. Performance wise there is not going to be a huge improvement. I would try and pay about 100 for a 5850.

    Re: GTX280 to 5850 ?

Yeah I was guessing around £100 used.

Same thing for the 460's 1Gb i guess, although looking at the reviews it seems the 5850 would be a better buy

    Re: GTX280 to 5850 ?

I'd go with the 5850 as well, much better power draws as well = better longevity.

    Re: GTX280 to 5850 ?

I've just picked up a second 5850 today, and on ebay they are going for approx £115-130 all in, depending on model etc. Bear in mind about which model you get if you are planning large OCs, as I belive non-reference ones have voltage regulators that cannot be controlled via software, so you cant up voltage to get better clocks. Most if not all the reference 5850's clocked well anyway iirc. But just some info.

People keep saying about £100 sounds right for a second hand one. Where is this coming from? Been tracking places like gumtree and ebay and they all seem to go for the same, a touch over hundred. Am I missing an obvious place to look?

ebay will always be higher then Forums for buying - since the seller has the ebay/paypal fee's.
I have seen quiet a few sell for £100inc now, but so far all I have seen have been with the std or nosey coolers so not bothered to buy.
