Honestly I would try and pick up something second hand.

ATI 4000 series or a low end ATI 5000 series.

Your money will go further that way.

    Re: Budget Gpu Dilemma

    What PSU do you have?

I would look at the 9800GT Green Edition GDDR3:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169143

    However,a 9800GT won't be a massive upgrade over an HD3850 512MB:

    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Z...dition/26.html

If it is an HD3850 256MB then it would be a larger upgrade.

You can also get an HD5670 GDDR5 for under £60:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/190138

    The 9800GT is faster though:

I would suggest saving up some money and getting at least an HD5770 1GB:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-x...-dvi-i-dp-hdmi

Once you get to 20 posts you can get free postage from Scan:

QFT. What is your power supply? (PSU)

Have a look at previous prices for cards sold on reputable forums. Tomshardware.co.uk has comparison charts for a general and quick rough idea, although you may wish to check specific reviews for the games you play.

One thing to remember is that most modern cards have the sound out through the HDMI cable, so you only need one cable from the PC to TV if you are using the TV's speakers/receiver for sound (being a modern Sony I expect it has a compatible HDMI socket(s) for this). If using an older card then you would need a cable for the sound (usually optical these days). If you are using PC speakers then this won't be an issue.
