    9600 GT overclocked? opinions?

Looking to replace graphics cards for a friend, on a budget, had an nvidia gts 250 that just died.
I found 2 cards on ebay, just looking for opinions on the cards, good for gaming? good value? etc.
    link if interested...

What is the motherboard and what is the CPU??

You can get an HD5870 1GB for around £162 or an HD6870 1GB for around £164:

    Re: 9600 GT overclocked? opinions?

what would the performance be like compared to 2 9600s in SLI? if the ati cards are better in a single card config then thats the better choice, also would hope to get the 2 9600s for close to £100
(im not really familiar with ati cards, rely on cuda so tied to nvidia)

    Re: 9600 GT overclocked? opinions?

The HD6870 and HD5870 are around the same performance level as a GTX470 or GTX560TI.

    TBH,a GTX460 1GB or an HD6850 1GB should also do the job:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/230557

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-k...vi-i-mini-hdmi

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-e...dvi-i-minihdmi

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/244431

    The GTX460 1GB or HD6850 1GB are both faster than a GTX285.

The HD6850 1GB is more power efficient than a GTX460 1GB and is slightly faster when both cards are at stock speeds.

However, there are GTX460 1GB OC versions for around the same price which should be a bit faster but consume more power.

    Re: 9600 GT overclocked? opinions?

2 9600 cards in SLI would be crazy.

They're about 3 generations old, and not even top of the line of their generation. Always take one card over a pair in SLI/Crossfire where possible.

    Re: 9600 GT overclocked? opinions?

What the other Jim said, pretty much.

If he really wants an SLI setup (for epeen reasons or whatever), tell him to get two of these which will be much faster than 2 9600GTXs (they have almost twice as many shaders each), will cost less, and are brand new hence have a manufacturer's warranty (which is much more reliable than some bloke on ebay ).

You'll struggle to find benchmarks, unfortunately, but I reckon a single GTX460 would probably be even faster than the 2 cards I've recommended above, for about the same price. Your friend needs to take some time to read through reviews of recent graphics card releases (that is, nvidia GTX400/500 series, and ATI 5000/6000 series) if they think a pair of 9600GTs are a good buy for £150....

    Re: 9600 GT overclocked? opinions?

thanks for the advice, it was the manufacturer that caught my attention though, ive used bfg before, probably the best company iver ever dealt with in terms of warranty, i think its 5 year as standard, lifetime in US. Im just not up to date with gaming cards, im good with quadro, tesla and clusters
The 460 in an earlier post looks like a good card for the money, i dont care too much for SLI or nvidia vs. ati but i think he wants an nvidia card just so there is the option of buying a second, easier to add another card than upgrade most of the system

Yeah, I don't think anyone would want to make any bold statements about BFGs current RMA service.
