    GTX560 or 2 GTX460's in SLI

    Hi folks,
What do you think would be the best option, 1 GTX560 or 2 GTX460's in SLI ? I am currently running 2 8800gt's in SLI and my monitor resolution is 1680 x 1050. I like to play racing sims, Crysis and similar games.
    Thanks in advance

For that resolution I think a single new gen card would be perfect.

I would pick a 560/570 or HD6950 (this can be unlocked btw)

start with a 560 and add another, bit harder flogging a pair of 4 series later on if you change ur mind.

@1680x1050 a single GTX560 will give you > 50fps in pretty much any game available now - even Crysis Plus a single more powerful card now gives you the option to add a second if you decided to get a betterhigher resolution monitor later

I would go with one card. You will avoid any problems related with SLI although granted there is a lot less of them these days.

460 SLI will give you more FPS but you have to make sure your board can handle it and you are happy with associated problems that you might have with drivers.

    Re: GTX560 or 2 GTX460's in SLI

The 460 should be about the same as a 280(=9800gx2=8800SLI) but with the bells and whistles. Not sure the 560 is THAT much better than a 460. I don't think there is any point upgrading betwen the two. Unless you are getting slow down it may be worth hanging in there for the 28nm chips later in the year. The only certainty is that your 8800s are not going to depreciate much in value!

Out of the two options listed the 460 SLi would be more powerful. 6850 xfire may be another option due to lower power draw if you can find them at the same price as the 460. The 460s will produce more heat than your 88s. The blower coolers are loud on most models.

Try to avoid the 460 SE if you can. I'm intent on sowing confusion!

    Re: GTX560 or 2 GTX460's in SLI

Since the motherboard the OP has can do Crossfire I would get an HD6950 2GB:

    http://forums.hexus.net/current-barg...-delivery.html

However, running a pair of GTX460 1GB cards on an HX520W maybe pushing it TBH!

I would look at getting a pair of HD6850 1GB cards:

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/4002/a...p-asus-xfx-msi

The HD6850 1GB has similar performance to a GTX460 1GB but has lower power consumption and most use a single PCI-E power connector. Even HD6850 1GB cards which have a pair of PCI-E power connectors such as the Sapphire Toxic can still run off a single PCI-E power connector:

    http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=27537&page=2

You can get the HD6850 1GB for under £140 now:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/search?page=1&...48&subcat=3304

The MSI HD6850 1GB Cyclone looks like a decent card:

    Re: GTX560 or 2 GTX460's in SLI

2 GTX 460s will perform better than gtx560/570 and 580. But it's up to you how much you want to spend. And temperature issues tbh.

I've already got 1 GTX 460 so an obivous upgrade for me is another GTX 460, which will be WAYYY better than me upgrading to a gtx 560 (which will cost more)

You got to weigh up the benefits and drawbacks

GTX560 then get a second in the future if you feel the need.

    Re: GTX560 or 2 GTX460's in SLI

I would get the gtx 560. Dont forget its great OC potential and I suspect it will be quite cheap to grab a second one for SLI further down the road.

I would get the 560ti as your PSU may not be able to handle the 460's. I would get a new PSU aswell to save you being limited later

I have a corsair vx750 running my sli setup at the moment, you think it's too small for the job?
