Edit:
Looks very much like a 9600 non-pro to me. Article says it's a 9600SE with a 128 bit bus (which makes it a full 9600 AFAIK). One of them uses TSOP RAM (like all the 9600 non-pros do) and the other uses BGA (and I wonder what speed as BGA is only normally found on the 9600 pro and XT again - AFAIK)

My definition of good includes more than performance. I know ATI has had the best high-end card since over 2 years ago. But I am not after the last edge of performance. I really have no use for it. I've bought both ATI and Nvidia cards for my machines over the last years, but must say I've never been fully satisfied with my ATI cards...
I'm sure some people enjoys seeing a number that tells them their machine is the fastest of all. But I really find little pleasure in that...

Yes, but ATi don't lag behind in any other area's either. I have plenty of friends who power their budget machine's with 9200SE cards.
What are Nvidia giving you that you feel you can't get from ATi? Not that I 'prefer' either company, I just can't see what has made you discount ATi completely?

well its a VERY EXPENSIVE version if thats what it is....
its MORE dough than a 9600 XT with 256mb on board

Of course I'll still keep my eyes open and when I notice a change, I can sure give them another chance. But for now I would not buy any product from ATI...
... exept maybe a Gamecube

9550 was the card that was released in japan only and then got released in the EU o_O
It was on the inquirer the other day
heh, read the thread I said that already...
But when I reread the article I found that it was China really. I thought I remembered that it was Japan aswell...

It's just a slower version of a 9600 with a 128bit memory bus. They should be cheapola, but some manufacturers seem to be confusing the issue by factory overclocking the cards and fitting faster mem etc.- god knows why.
ATI brought them out because as crap as the FX5200 is it's technically a DX9 part whereas the 9000/9200 are not. It's all to do with the marketing. Still, the 9550 could potentially be a bargain if the card manufacturers inplement the card properly.

good answer Rave...that actually made sense out of it....
so potentially cheapo parts (one day) and a 128bit mem architecture....right...
Stoopid numbers tho

It looks like rather than amending the original listing they just put a new one up, so I wouldn't be surprised if another 9550 turned up on the listing at some point but vastly cheaper

Sapphire say the Radeon 9550 is 'for gamers on a budget' and compared it to the nVidia FX5700. Will know more this week.
