My Dell recently died and I'm making do with a tiny thing dug out from the attic. I really miss my widescreen and am looking to replace it as cheaply as possible. The max I could stretch to is £150 including vat and delivery. I play alot of gloomy games, so good contrast and refresh rate prolly a must...and decent warranty:rolleyes: Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Good call, spent a week or so reading reviews on every monitor going trying to decide. Ordered ST2220L from Scan for £136:)

Not sure you can go too far wrong these days tbh. These panels are all obviously intended for 1080p TV sets, so last monitor I got was a 22" TV. £150 gets you the panel with VGA and HDMI inputs, and freeview, USB media player, DVD player and probably these days built in ethernet/iplayer if you hunt around. It doesn't get used as a TV much, but it does get used.
If you want real quality then you need to spend £400, but for me the cheap stuff is fine.

err, what's wrong with 16:9? Give me the choice between a 1920x1080 monitor and a 1680x1050 monitor and I'll take the former. Why would you pay more for lower resolution screen? For what? 16:10 aspect ratio. Pffff if it was 1920x1200 I might understand - I wish I could find one cheaper than the U2410 then I might have chosen differently - but a 16:9 1920x1080 still has both more vertical and horizontal real estate on screen than a 1680x1050. The U2311h can be had for £200 and as a U series comes with Dell's 3 year no dead pixel, no bright sub pixel guaranty. Better deal all round IMO.
Aria are currently doing the U2311h for £234, and Dell have a 20% off monitors voucher going that will reduce the £260 asking price to £208 if you wanted to go direct.
Granted you only gain resolution with 16:9 on those 2 resolutions - I was just referring to the general aspect ratio more than anything else. For example 1920x1080 compared to 1920x1200 feels sooo limiting and it only gets worse as the resolution drops.Quote:

I agree, it's a shame they ditched 1920x1200 as a standard - much more practical and the extra vertical lines really do make a difference. Blame BluRay. It was going fine until then...
Not a fan of 16:9 here either, but ended up with 2048x1152 as it had the most pixels for the money. Really don't understand why these panels didn't take off.
The benq VA panel monitors have amazing picture quality but in motion they look pretty poor. I had all but decided to get one until a friend did. Still images look amazing. For gaming especially FPS really bad ghosting. I got an IPS 23" panel direct from dell for £200. Definately worth it.
