No video output on new build

    Hi guys,

I've just built a new system for myself but can't get any video output. The card I have is an MSI GTS 450 Cyclone and the Mobo is an MSI 870-C45. The card works in another system but another card will not work with this mobo... when the system starts up everything starts - SATA devices, fans, mobo lights etc.

This is the first time I've come unstuck with a new build and this has been doing my head in since 5:15 this afternoon. If anyone can help I'd very much appreciate it

    Best,

    Akira.

is bios set for video output default = PCIe output (or PEG) if that option is available? My mobo uses PCI for standard PCI and PEG for PCIe graphics.

He can't get any video output so can't change anything in the BIOS

Do you get any bios beeps? Any diagnostics on the board?

Try with only 1 stick of ram in different slots. Try reseating cpu. Build out of the case in case of shorts with minimum components.

I Had exactly the same thing with my brother's new set up - no video output even with two different gfx cards - RMA'd and turned out motherboard was faulty.

Re: No video output on new build

    Things to do:

Re-seat the graphics card in the PCI-E slot
Ensure the power cable(s) are securely connected to the graphics card
Reset the CMOS with the jumper pin
Remove the motherboard battery and power down for 10 minutes (unplug from the wall)
If possible, grab on old PCI based graphics card and see if that works (only if possible).

If you've done the first 4 things without success I would suspect there's a fault on your motherboard or power supply, given you've already tested the card in another machine.

Re: No video output on new build

    Hiya,

Don't know if I'm a "bit late to the party" for this one...but....

I recently had a similar problem - no graphics output from a new build. Got a second card - same problem. Thought it must be the MoBo, so was reluctantly going to RMA it.....then....I discovered that a blanking blate on the case, next to the graphics card slot was forcing the graphics card slightly to the left - could only of been a mm or 2, so I wasn't considering it a problem. Upon removal of the blanking plate, so the graphics card sat totally true, all good.

From this, either some PCI-E slots are a lot less forgiving regarding the placement of the card than others, or PCI-E is a lot more fussy than AGP abou being totally straight in the slot, and being moved 1 mm by an over-lapping blaking plate was too much!

    Hope that may help!

Re: No video output on new build

I had to really fight to get my graphics card to insert into the case far enough to do up the mounting screw. Don't fancy having to do it too often.

The neighbouring blanking plate was part of the problem for me too. But once the card was in I was able to reinsert the blanking plate.
