Re: GTX 560 Ti vs HD 6950
the 6950 is a slightly better card and if you can unlock the cores on it then its even better
Re: GTX 560 Ti vs HD 6950
The MSI Twin Frozr 560 can be had for £180 on Today Only. Personally i would take that over the significantly dearer Palit or the 6950, given the latter is XFX.
Re: GTX 560 Ti vs HD 6950
I have no interest in unlocking the 6950, I don't want to end up with an expensive paperweight.
Terb - what is wrong with XFX? I haven't heard anything negative about them..?
Edit* Another reason I'm leaning towards the 560 Ti is that driver support has been awesome from nVidia. Where as ATi, I've read countless threads because of the ATi drivers were being picky and causing problems for people systems!

The referance HD6950 cards have a dual BIOS, so it is not possible to brick it as long as you keep one of the BIOS copies intact.
If the flash does not work just flick the switch to the default BIOS.
Also,you only flash the shaders.

I have had an HD3870,HD4830 and HD5850 in the last few years and the drivers have been fine. I have also had an 8500GT and an 8800GTS 512MB and the drivers were fine too.
These driver problems are mostly PEBKAC.

Just horror stories in general, especially on the Aria forums; cards dying left, right and centre and then their less than desired European RMA service when your card does go pop.
Don't get me wrong i can't comment on MSI or anyone else's RMA service, but going off what I've read both here and on the Aria forums you won't catch me buying an XFX card :p

He means their returns Reputation is not Great (never had an issue personally my one rma went by smoothly)
Ati Drivers are no worse than Nvidia drivers mate. I've probably read as many bad threads about nvidia drivers as you have ati (and i am currently using an nvidia card)
I had a 6950 recently however the fan blade snapped so got a refund and went for a GTX480 as they are faster than both of the cards you have chosen.
In terms of bricking the 6950 unlocking Cores they have a dual bios Its almost impossible to brick them as if it fails you flick the switch load the backup bios flick switch back save hey presto.
Even Without Regardless of make That 6950 is £30 cheaper than the 560TI and they are both very similar cards so it would make sense to go with the Cheaper.
Or if you can stretch to £230 for the palit one keep an eye on scan the msi gtx 570 keeps popping up for £239.99 on today only deals
Re: GTX 560 Ti vs HD 6950
Right fellas you have edged me towards the 6950 now.
Another concern, will my PSU be ok - Corsair HX 620W?

Yeah that's completely fine for this card.
Re: GTX 560 Ti vs HD 6950
PSU will be fine - I'm running GTX 460 SLI on the Seasonic equivalent :D
Re: GTX 560 Ti vs HD 6950
Funnily enough a sub £200 GTX480 is a good deal too TBH.
An HD6950 2GB will run fine off a decent 500W PSU so your HX620W will do the job.
Re: GTX 560 Ti vs HD 6950
Ordered the XFX HD 6950 from Scan for a total of £189.23. Thank you folks.
Re: GTX 560 Ti vs HD 6950
I have a xfx 6950 and it unlocks with no hassle. the one bios is locked so you cant flash it so there is no risk. The new 11.4 drivers have some serious speed gains in games as well.

Even have a script to do it so its just 1 click within windows.
