GTX 460 Green Edition - Strangest GTX 460 Ever?

    Hi all,

So I'm building a mitx gaming rig at the moment and went for a GTX 460 by Gainward as it has the shorter PCB.

I've assembled it all in my system and stress tested it quite a bit. The card runs max 63 degrees with stock clocks (on this card they are 648 core, 850 RAM and 1296 shaders) at a lowered core voltage of 0.9v. I have a 250w PSU which powers it all fine, although you do have to connect both 6 pin power connections otherwise you get no display. Max power I have seen the system draw was running furmark and prime95, total draw was 172w.

Now the strange thing is whilst I've been messing around with the card to try and reduce it's power draw, GPU-Z shows this:

    So in summary
Core at 648MHz like a GTX 460 SE
RAM at 850MHz like a GTX 460 SE
    768MB RAM like a GTX 460
    192-bit bus width like a GTX 460
288 unified shaders like a GTX 460 SE
    24 ROPs like a GTX 460

It seems that it combines the worst specs of both normal GTX 460 and GTX 460 SE!

I've yet to run a benchmark but will give 3dmark a go later to see what scores I get.

Do you think there is any chance of me returning this card as " product not as described"? I bought it from Ebuyer last Thursday where it is described as just the normal 768MB GTX 460.

And for a pic of the mitx system if anyone's interested:

(Sorry for the poor quality was taken with my phone)

The GTX460 768MB Green Edition should be basically an underclocked GTX460 768MB. You have got one which seems to use the GPU of a GTX460SE.

BTW,have you tried the latest version of GPU-Z just in case it is not detecting the amount of shaders correctly??

The KFA2 GTX460 Green Edition lists 336 shaders:

    http://www.kfa2.com/gtx460green.html

    Gainward seem quite coy though:

    http://www.gainward.com/main/vgapro.php?id=451

Here is the Nvidia web-page for the GTX460:

    http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/produ...tx-460-uk.html

It clearly shows the difference between the various versions of the GTX460 and it seems that you were mis-sold the card IMHO.

    TBH,I would bought an HD6850 1GB or HD5770 1GB for a build with a smaller PSU.

Did you buy the card on the 31st?? If so I would contact Ebuyer immediately telling them you want to return it within the 7 day period as the item is not as described. Give them the relevant links too.

I will double check and download the latest version of GPU-Z, I did however try and flash it with the BIOS of a normal GTX 460 768mb but it kept artifacting even when I lowered the clocks.

I bought this card as it his a shorter PCB, a HD6850 wont fit and there are only certain HD5770s that do, namely a powercolor one which I can only find on ebay for about £110 which is the same price this GTX 460 cost me.

Can you upload a picture of the card??

How long is the PCB length??

Yep that's the case I will post some more pictures and write my thoughts on it when I'm home tonight and try find my camera to get some pictures that aren't just a blurry mess.

I'm currently at work so the best I can do is point you to http://www.hardwareheaven.com/review...x-460_card.jpg. The Gainward is exactly the same as the Palit apart from different fan and slightly different fan shroud. Palit now own Gainward so I expect a lot of their cards will be identical.

The card is 7.4" long (187.96mm).
