    Lg ips236v

    Review LG IPS236V

Please note that these pictures are not able to reproduce the faithful look of the screen, specially of close ups.

My window is located exactly behind the desk. On this picture I let down the shutter about ¾ of the way:

And on this picture daylight is hitting the screen:

Close ups of my screen are rubbish compared to the real look:

Good color display even at skewed viewing angles:

I find this silver thinge close to the power LED ridiculous:!

From my opinion the stand is sufficiently robust.

Shame it doesn't have a powered USB hub, or it should be a viable alternative to the Dell U2311H which I've currently spec'd for someone's photography build. That's a killer feature for such users.

    Re: Lg ips236v

Is there any visible ghosting/latency issues or input lag as opposed to a traditional TN? I'm looking at this monitor for gaming, and it seems the most affordable and has enough features but not too many (e.g., I wouldn't use a USB hub).

    Thanks.

Hi, I'm not a hardcore gamer but I have not come across any ghosting effects yet.
I think this model has a very good bang-for-buck ratio.

Just had a quick search via google .. ►

    Hi, I paid ...

    • on the 19th April 11 = 217,89 Euro incl. delivery - first one
    • on the 28th April 11 = 197,89 Euro incl. delivery - second one

LG had a promotion at the time and I got 40.- Euro cashback within 3 weeks after.

Checked with google shopping just now and the best price it came up with in our area was 169.- Euro excluding delivery.

I think that's a steal for that kind of quality.

    Well, I do love it.

    1. Reason for buying and expectations

I was looking for a successor to my Samsung 2493, which was broken in February. At first, I intended to remain loyal to Samsung and was thinking between the BX 2440 and PX2370, but decided at the end to try the PX2370, a 23 incher with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, 16 by 9. Unfortunately I was not 100% satisfied because small text was not as sharp and clear as expected and so I returned it.
Another thing was the exaggerated brightness. Strange enough it did not help much to completely lower brightness to 0%. This made me a little skeptical about TFT LED monitors in general. At the end I decided to give the model LG IPS236V a chance. There was not much information available on the net at the time, so I took a certain risk.

    2. Optics and haptics

I like the look of the housing. As you know, you cannot argue about taste and therefore this is up to personal preferences. There is no swivel or pivot but only tilt forwards and backwards.
The glossy surface is pretty scratch- and dust-sensitive. Apparently the majority of manufacturers use high glossy surfaces - very annoying I think.
The 16:9 format Personally I like much better than the 16:10 format, which can be still found on some models. The screen size 23 inch seems to be a good compromise between size and density of information. The little brother IPS226V has a size of 21.5 inch with the same resolution.

    3. Equipment

    Specifications:

Display type: TFT LCD active matrix with white LED backlight and S-IPS TFT technology
    Dimensions with stand: 550 (W) x 425 (H) x 19 to 39 (D) mm

    Weight: 3.9 lbs
    Diagonal: 58.4 cm (23 ')
    Pixel Pitch: 0.265 mm

    Accessory

Power supply (2.50 m cable length)
    DVI-D and a VGA cable (each 1.50 m)
Set of screws with spacers (2 long and 2 short)
    One (useless) Quick Guide
and a CD with drivers and manual (PDF)

    4. Performance & Application

    Settings:

The OSD is very user friendly. After touching any sensor, a keypad appears as a graphics above the sensor keys, so there is no need for a separate illumination. The options are clear and easy to control.

    OSD:

Language: CN, FI, FR, ES, SE, PL, GR, JP, UK, IT, KR, DE, RU, PT
Indicator: here you can turn off the blue power LED
    White Ballance: Yes / No
    Reset factory settings
    Brightness: 1-100
    Contrast: 1-100
    Sharpness: 10-10
Color temperature: preset values / Custom
Preset values: Warm / Medium / Cool
    Six axis color saturation control
    Red: 1-100
    Green: 100-100
    Blue: 1-100
    Gamma: 1.8 / 2.0 / 2.2 / 2.4 / 2.6
    Color Reset
    Horizontal: 1-100
    Vertical: 1-100
    Clock: 1-100
    Clock rate: 1-100
    Overscan: on / off
    Info: resolution and frequency
    Volume: 1-100
Mode: users / film / text / photo / sRGB
    Auto Adjust
    Input Selector

    Image quality:

Both HD images as well as Blu-Ray movies have made me speechless. Not to compare with cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL).
While I was with a friend on the phone, I ran a screen saver cycle of my HD wallpaper collection in 10-second intervals. At times I had to say "ooh!", "aaah!" and "oh my god!" My friend was quite confused, lol
A short Preview of Quake Enemy Territory and Battlefield2 has shown me again the colors are clear and rich. In addition, one appreciates the extra field of estate.
The viewing angle is wide and at a distance of approximately 60 cm from the screen, I could not see discoloration or bleeding-effects.
Even when viewed from the side, the colors are still beautiful and small texts can be read easily. So, also great for office work, where several people share a table.

    Interpolation:

The desktop is rendered clean even at lower resolutions. There are hardly any shifts or blurring to be observed. Older games like "Halo Combat Evolved," can be played perfectly acceptable.

    Response time:

The reaction time is about 8 ms (ISO). In practice this has proved to be suitable for gaming. Color, contrast and viewing angles are also very important.

    5. Other:

If I could change anything, then I would have preferred a matte over of a glossy case.
I would also like the screen to tilt more than only 5 degrees backwards.
A little annoying: I sent a question via LG's contact form, but never received a reply.
    LG had a 20, - € cashback promotion until 31.05.11

    6 pro

    • balanced, rounded design
    • brilliant colors and crystal clear text display
    • good gaming capability (no streaks)
    • good interpolation
    • low power consumption
    • good price / performance ratio

    7. contra

    • slight color hue for black background (as usual with IPS panels)
    • the high-gloss finish, because it is fingerprint, scratch and dust sensitivity
    • no USB input/hub

    8. conclusion

The monitor convinced me. It's already priced below comparable units with PN-panel. It managed to impress me that much that I own two of these screen now.
The IPS236V was rated only average at Prad.de because of the following points:

Lack of height adjustment, swivel, rotating.
The testers did not like that the monitor has touch buttons for the OSD, which also are located too close to each other. I would prefer real buttons, but you don't changed the settings as often anyway.
Input lag was only 1ms and therefore virtually non-existent, but the response time of 8ms could not be met. Measurements have shown that the actual average value was 30.8ms.
It was recommended to change the gamma value of 2.2 (standard) to 2.0 in order to achieve a more natural impression of the colours.
Excessive formation of clouds in the background was not detected. Regarding the clouding issues I've also heard that most units are not affected - but some are.
On the positive side the monitor does not make any humming noise.
    The maximum consumption was 32.6 W (at 225 cd/m2) and the minimum consumption only 22.6 W (at 120 cd/m2).
The factory settings for brigthness are exaggerated and should be turned down.
Furthermore both, the colors and the gray values were praised at the default setting with an sRGB coverage of 91%.
The monitor has been certified a good uniform luminance.
(The complete review can be from the 26.05.11 to retrieve the prad.de website for free)
If you need a monitor for professional image editing, then I'm afraid it's going to be much more expensive. As a regular user, I only put emphasis on my personal impressions.
Unfortunately the LG has no USB input, or an USB hub. Many people would love to have that.
The "DualWeb" feature requires a software installation from the CD. So you can then split the screen using the OSD. Yes, I think that's as useless as the so-called "Cinema Mode" where you can highlight sections of the image by making the frame around it blury.

    Re: Lg ips236v

I'm thinking about LG IPS235V because of nice matte finish, rather than gloss in LG IPS236V.
Any other difference btw LG IPS235V and LG IPS236V???????????
