    Faulty sideport memory ?

I've been getting some strange things happening with the graphics, It seems it may be the sideport memory as when I changed the BIOS to Sideport only the PC wouldn't even display the BIOS.

This is what happens on several objects on the screen.

    Re: Faulty sideport memory ?

It sounds likely. Do you have an overclock on the integrated graphics and/or sideport ram? I ran my son's PC on integrated graphics for a while and it overclocked like hell, so there was plenty of margin in the design.

Still, at least if that is the problem then the PC will work fine if you plug a discrete graphics card in there.

Edit to add: Meant to say I have seen several discrete graphics cards die due to what appeared to be fried ram, and only one die with the graphics chip itself (a passive cooled 6600GT, so not a big surprise) so ram wouldn't be a big shock to me. Is the inside of the machine fairly hot, or at least prone to get hot in the recent weather?

    Re: Faulty sideport memory ?

I'm going to run it on the RAM only and see if it happens again. I've never overclocked the graphics as I don't play games with this machine.

The PC is cool inside. So I would have thought it would not be a heat issue.

Yes, I reset the BIOS and had to set it all up again which is a pain on this board as alot of it is set in hex codes.

Will just run it on UMA only and see, Maybe one day when I have money again I'll buy a graphics card.

I'm wondering now if it is because the graphics throttles back when not under load.

It occasionally leaves a part of the previous wallpaper when it changes to a new one.

    Re: Faulty sideport memory ?

I've changed from onboard graphics to a HD6450, I've used slower RAM timings and it still does this strange thing with the graphics from time to time.

I really can't think of anything other than a software problem now
