    Nvidia 560, AMD 5870 or 6870

I have a budget of £150, dont want to spend anymore as there is a new build simmering somewhere in my brain and I dont want to go overboard on an older (but much cherished) machine.

Running a 9600 currently, its a warranty replacement from BFG and although its been fine, WoW now crashes occasionally and I think its the card.

    So, replacement options :-

The 560 comes in just shy of £150, the 6870 at £130 from Ebuyer and the 5870 again just shy of £150.

Its an Abit AW9 Dmax board, if that makes any difference.

I'm a little sketchy on the differences between the cards, i know the 560 has the physX support, and the 5870 is a bit old now, but its supposedly better than the 6870 but doesnt have the 3d support that i couldnt care less about.

I would really appreciate some input here, dont want to go order the wrong thing

    Re: Nvidia 560, AMD 5870 or 6870

You can't go wrong with any of them, and it's a tough choice between the three!

The 5870 is out and out the fastest for your money, so if you don't think you'll be making use of the 'extras' for the 560 or 6870 then that's the best value. If you do know that you need nvidia specific features though then go for the 560.

+1 for the 5870 unless you see yourself playing a lot of tessellation-heavy games in the near-future, then the 6870 might pip it.....

    Re: Nvidia 560, AMD 5870 or 6870

Thought i had posted here a couple days back, couldnt have hit the post button /doh

I'm off on holiday as of the 1st of June, i'm going to hold off till i get back, a couple weeks can be a long time and no point in spending money on a component that I wont be using for a week or 2 anyways.

However, I am extremely tempted by the 5870 and it may well be the way to go, I'm still pricing up individual components for another build tho, and that 6950 deal from OCUK the other day was very tempting, hope they do something similar on a regular basis.

I think I am definitely going the AMD route tho, had Nvidia every time since the original GeForce, and something has always gone wrong, time to give the opposition a chance

Definitely the 5870 at that price point. Great card for the money especially when overclocked.

Personally I'd go for the GTX 560, Nvidia cards are my personal favourite and you get a good price performance ratio, plus its the latest gen of cards
