    Old GPU's in x-fire, upgrade?

Yes I know that there are loads of threads regarding GPU upgrades, sorry!

I've got 2 512mb 4850's in x-fire on a core 2 duo system. I'm not planning on upgrading the cpu or mobo anytime soon. I've been out of pc gaming for a while but quite fancy the likes of the witcher 2 and a couple of other new games. My monitor is a samsung 24" (which I'm still pleased with!).

My question is - stick or twist? Yes I suppose I could just buy the games I'm interested in and see, but if I didn't....

I don't want ot spend more than £200 and a very quiet card is very important to me - at least in 2D desktop mode. Looks like there are 560ti's, 58xx or 68xx or even a 460 GTX. I'm so out of touch right now! Will these sort of cards be a massive upgrade?? The only game I've played recently on the pc is crysis - which I get some funny artefacts in the sky with, but otherwise runs fine. Thanks!

I think you should be fine. A pair of HD4850 512MB cards are still relatively powerful although more VRAM might be useful.

It seems that either an HD5870 1GB,HD6950 2GB or a GTX560TI 1GB would be the best choices for under £200:

The HD5870 1GB would be the cheapest option at under £150:

Re: Old GPU's in x-fire, upgrade?

I agree. Replaced my 4870 crossfire with a 4870 X2 and then a 5870, pretty similar performance right the way through. With a 5870 available for about £130 at the moment in various deals, it's a bargain.
