    No Nvidia for XFX

Been in talks with xfx about getting my faulty 9800gt repaired or replaced and noticed on their website there are no Nvidia cards, only ATI.
Did I miss the news that they have moved over to ATI and no longer produce Nvidia cards??

    Just a quickie question really.

An HD6670 GDDR5 should be around the same speed as a 9800GT AFAIK. An HD5670 will be slower but an HD5750 GDDR5 will be faster.

I'd also like to add that xfx changed their warranty rules to only dealing with retailers.
So all retail customers should deal with the retailer who supplied the card not xfx

But that was before they stopped doing nvidia cards, I'm surprised that that card is still in warranty (they came out in 2008 and normally only carry a 2 year warranty)

    Re: No Nvidia for XFX

Wow didn't XFX used to be Nvidia-only? TBH it serves Nvidia right, dirty tatics and all, reminds me of what Intel were doing with Dell a while back and got sued for. I have no sympathy when companies shoot themselves in the foot like that.

    Re: No Nvidia for XFX

XFX did indeed used to be an NVidia exclusive partner. Then came the Typical IT Soap Opera:

ATI release 4000 series cards - get back on terms with NVidia in performance for the first time since G80 was released.

XFX decide they want to expand their market share so sign up as an ATI partner.

NVidia don't like losing an exclusive partner, throw their toys out of the pram and refuse to provide XFX with Fermi-based graphics chips; later remove XFX from their approved partners list.

XFX tell NVidia where to stick their late, over-priced, hot-running, power-guzzling graphics cards and become an exclusive ATI / AMD partner.

All a bit childish really, if you ask me.

Yup, but seriously what did Nvidia expect would happen when they weren't holding all the cards? Some huge companies would do well to read up on common sense.

Wasn't it BFG, XFX and EVGA as Nvidia's exclusive partners? BFG went bust, XFX cut links and only EVGA left. Anyway, there were rumours going around at this that Nvidia was going to move into selling cards direct themselves like 3dfx.

    Re: No Nvidia for XFX

So do Nvidia have no exclusive parters now? TBH I don't understand why Nvidia/AMD don't sell reference cards themselves? I mean they design reference PCBs anyway -is it just a cost thing?

it's bad business to compete against your customers

Then they are doing bad business

They tend to be fairly basic affairs so maybe they don't' see it as competing. I owuldn't be surprised if some system builders used unbranded cards. Also i remember reading that bestbuy in america were selling unbranded nvidia cards.

    Re: No Nvidia for XFX

ati and nvidia do produce cards, that's what stock cards are, nvidia sells them to partners who stick there own brand stickers on them and stuff them into pretty retail boxes.
This way the partners have something to sell on release and time to develope custom pcb's and coolers.

The list of current nvidia partners is currently
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/pf_boardpartners.html
Asus, EVGA, Zotac, MSI, Palit, galaxy, gigabyte and pny
XFX pulled out of nvidia because nvidia was upping the costs of partner status, not because (granted there was probably a falling out too)
