    Smile Eyefinity E6 5870 + 5770 low fraps!! strange??

    Hi guys.

    I am running an Eyefinity HD5870 E6 and HD5770.

Now as I'm in the process of upgrading 3 of my monitors to 22's, I have a quad desktop (2x4) enabled and a dual desktop enabled (1x2).
I ran FRAPS whilst loading F1 2010 and Hawx only to find that my frame rate drops dramatically down to around 7-10fps. Rather low I'd say considering the performance available from the HD5870!
I am on Ati 10.6 driver as This is supposed to be better than the latest drivers for this card.

Now I have recently replaced the previous low rated 480w psu for a Tagen 1300 BZ piperock therefore providing substantial power to the cards and other devices, I am just a bit concerned I have overlooked settings to increase frame rate somewhere.

    Any ideas?

    cheers

Really? How fast is a 5870 at 6x normal resolution?

    Re: Eyefinity E6 5870 + 5770 low fraps!! strange??

I have seen tests which are resulting in 30-60 fps running Hawx, crysis,WoW.

I am wondering if i haven't set the correct values in ccc.

I am running a 2x2 quad monitor arrangement from the card at the moment until I receive a further 2 x mini display port to dvi adapter to enable the other 2 monitors from the same card.

With three 1680X1050 or 1920X1080 monitors a single HD5870 maybe sufficient for many games:

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...6,2595-10.html

    http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/...mance_review/3

Only older games will run fine with six monitors.

    Re: Eyefinity E6 5870 + 5770 low fraps!! strange??

yeah, but the eyefinity 5870 E6 supports 6 displays, which is what i bought it for, I will be running 6 x Dell E2210's via Minidisplay port to Dvi adapter.

The card has the capabilities , just not sure what i've over looked.
I know some games have settings for video, it's still new to me , so not knowing what settings would yield the best results..

Please tell us which organisation did these tests so we can have a look - they might specify what settings they were running at.

Your link only talks about three screens. Have you got the link to where you read about six screens?

    Re: Eyefinity E6 5870 + 5770 low fraps!! strange??

    and :

    amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/ati-radeon-hd-5000/hd-5870-eyefinity-6-edition/Pages/overview.aspx#4

quote " In tests AMD achieved an average 80.6 FPS in the game “Left4Dead 2” using a six screen configuration with one ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition card, 80.6 x (1920 x 1080 x 6) = 1.002 billion pixels per second."

So I'm sure I should be looking at higher fps that what i have????

l4d is more demanding on the CPU then the GPU.

GPU intensive games with 6 screens.....that's going to need some serious fire-power. Even my GTX580 can struggle in a some games at 2560x1600.

What's the 5770 doing in there? How is it configured? I assume (hope!) you're not running some weird assymetric crossfire with it....

    Re: Eyefinity E6 5870 + 5770 low fraps!! strange??

Right. I'd ignore the AMD report.. I'd guess that will have been achieved in 'optimal' conditions. The Anandtech one is more useful, though they don't seem to mention the rest of the hardware. At a guess, it's the system here:
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/2977/n...th-the-wait-/8

So check how yours compares. They do note "For most games I had to disable AA at this resolution. It's simply too much for a single card to drive." So definitely check what game settings you are running. Try with one card first and check there's no major problems before working out *if* you get any benefit from adding a second lesser card to the mix - it could be you need to get another 5870 and ditch the 5770.

    Re: Eyefinity E6 5870 + 5770 low fraps!! strange??

    Hi guys,

Right, I should explain my set up better.

    HD5770 is running 2 x monitors via dvi,(1x19" + 1 x E2210
HD5870 E6 is running 2 x E2210 dells via the minidp to dvi adaptors,
1 x 19" Monitor via minidp to vga
1 x Dell P2210 via minidp to dp.

All monitors are "Extended Desktop " and NOT grouped.
I have 3 x 22" monitors across the top row and on the bottom row its : 19" ,21 5",19"

The 2 monitors on the left (22"(top) + 19"(Bottom)) are running at the moment from the 5770 (dvi), the quad (2 x 22(top)+ 21.5 +19(bottom)) on the right is running from the 5870. It sounds confusing, but this was the only arrangement that I could use with the limited adaptors available that came with the 5870 ( 5 x dp adaptors instead of 6)

    22" ----- 22" ----- 22"

    19" ----- 21.5" ------- 19"

    (hd5770) ------ ( HD 5870 )

Now, I am buying more minidp adaptors so that I can run 6 x 22" screens and get rid of the 2 x 19's and the 21.5 Dell.

Eventually I want to have 6 monitors running from the 5870 in eyefinity as one group, and the 5770 running an HDMI signal to my 40" flat panel. I hope this makes sense so far......

The games I want to play, will be Eyefinity enabled, such as Grid, F1 2010, Hawx to name but a few....I dont play fps really, so having the crosshair problem wont really apply.

I appreciate E6 isn't for everyone, but I like the potential it offers, I do spend a lot of time generally browsing forums, listening to music, youtube ,downloading, auctions, social networks, and various other tasks, so not having to go to the taskbar as often scrolling through tabs, I can have multiple windows open using Hydragrid, also it's less confusing because my partner uses the same pc, and she can easily navigate around multiple screens with ease.

I am a novice builder, and have been on a budget with regard to this build.

I initially ran Eyefinity from the 5770 using 2 x 19's(dvi+vga) and the P2210 dell (Displayport enabled) in a single group, and the hdmi to the tv, but, to run a signal to the Hdmi the "group" had to be disabled, therefore leaving both 19's off, and the P2210 on.
This situation annoyed me as while we where watching films on the hdmi it left a single display desktop to work on, not practical as far as I was concerned.
I found the HD5870 on Ebay, and for the asking price I grabbed it straight away.

Now I have the set up as mentioned in the first part of my explanation , I want to have the E6 running a grouped display ( 6 x 22"), and at the same time be able to watch via 5770 (hdmi) films on the 40" tv..
I do need to buy another 3 x 22" monitors, and their respective minidisplayport adapters so that all the resolutions match making it easier for the 5870 to group as 1 display.

The Q6600 I am running, is stock @2.4Ghz, I have no ideas about overclocking it.

I have recently been told that the cpu could be a contributing factor towards performance, and as such I am now looking at I7 series cpu's, I have wanted an I7 for some time, but it's buying the board/ram/cpu expense at the moment.

Well there's my explanation of what I have now,
I have ordered a Sapphire Active Displayport to Dvi Adapter yesterday, as I believe this is what I need to enable a display in ccc on the 5870, and I think I would have to buy others for eyefinity to work( Apparently I need displayport enabled displays ,but adapters will work for other dvi displays)

Now, I have recently ( 2 days ago) purchased and fitted a Tagan BZ series Piperock 1300w modular psu, this is because my lame 480w was far from enough, even for the hd5870 and kept causing crash's when even using screensavers and watching videos.

Temps on the hd5770 are at 82c just running 2 displays, temps on 5870 are at 66c running the other 4 as I type.

    Cpu temps on 4 cores : 48c,45c,43c,45,
    activity : 30%,28%,34%,32%

    Wei: proc:7.1, ram ocz at the mo,havent changed it yet for crucial)7.1 , graphics: 7.8 , gaming graphics : 7.8 , disc : 5.2.

lowest based score is 5.2 due to my primary disc only being 80gb, which I may invest in an SSD.

Sorry about the long explanation guys.

This computer is on for up to 14 hours per day, running a variety of tasks throughout the day as a general home pc, and It's the gaming and video watching area that I need to improve on.
