17 or 19" monitor to replace Iiyama PL H431S

    Hello:

I am looking for a good monitor to replace Iiyama ProLite H431S (1280 x 1024, 8 ms, 17 inches), which just went black.

In other words, I want a good monitor, but one somewhat dated, and thus cheap.

When I build my next computer (in a year or two), I will replace all my three monitors, but now, I have no reason to get one much better that the two similar Iiyamas i have. I can go up to 19", but deskspace is limited.

Grateful for a tip on a good/cheap monitor as described above.

    Regards,

    Hans L

Re: 17 or 19" monitor to replace Iiyama PL H431S

    Just check ebay for a 2nd hand 17" 4:3 (non-wider screen) monitor

otherwise you looking at this as a cheap option http://www.ebuyer.com/246267-edge-10...tor-with-t171b

Other option is repair, does the monitor turn on? (ie power light comes on) if you look very closely can you just about make out an image in the blackness?
That sounds odd but a common monitor fault is the inverter that powers the back light dies, you'll still get some light reflecting through the LCD, so if you can just about see a picture then it's the backlight that's failed or more likely the inverter that powers the back light, depending on the monitor it might well be possible to replace the inverter board in the monitor or pay to get it repaired (capacitor failier is common)

Re: 17 or 19" monitor to replace Iiyama PL H431S

You know what, when I turn the monitor off and on, or press one of the other buttons (kind of refreshes the screen; called "Input/Auto), the picture comes back for a few seconds, and then it goes away. In the beginning, if I did press enough times, the monitor stayed on for a few days, but eventually, I could no longer get it to stay on.

The above supports your idea of the inverter problem to a T. I will take the monitor to the repair guys here. They are good. And if they can't do anything, they probably have a cheap monitor that I can buy.

Thank you for your help. I will report back!

    Regards,

    Hans L

The problem is that I have three monitors and my desk space is limited with the present setup.

Oh! It’s great that you wanna new monitor. But buddy don’t you think that monitor is an old choice. You should get a new Laptop or you can go for LCD screen monitor. Asus, Toshiba, Acer, Dell, Hp, Samsung are the good one.
