    5870 crossfire query

    Ello all,

Just a quick query if i may, i currently have an ASUS EAH5870/2DIS/1GD5 and am wondering about adding another card for crossfire but would like some advice, do i:-

    a) try and get an exact same card (rare as rocking horse s**t)

    b) use a card with same specs (XFX match 1:1)

    c) replace with a 6970 or 7xxx when available

I will be upgrading to bulldozer when it's released, and i dunno if it helps but my monitor is a Dell 2407WFP (24") running a res of 1920x1200.

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the response.

I did think as much as they are due in the next month or so (if rumor holds up) but will a 7xxx give that much of a boost on what i have (i know thats a "how longs a piece of string" question) i have found an XFX 5870 for £150 which is why i ask as from everything i have read the 5870 still keeps up with the 6970 i suppose we shall wait and see.

Well, it is both a new architechture and shrinkage so I'd think so. I guess you could stay at £150 and still get a reasonably better card.

    Re: 5870 crossfire query

A pair of 5870 would be epic and would last a few years but i can hear bulldozer and the 7 series calling, and they have cookies!!

*Must shrug off the the upgrade bug*

    Re: 5870 crossfire query

A pair of 5870s would be epic power and heat compared to a single HD7xxx card though.

    Re: 5870 crossfire query

tbh with 5870 crossfire u can use any 2 5870's, just what ever the lowest clocks are on either card it will force both to rum at those speeds
