I'm interested to know if the difference in price is justified by the difference in quality - does anyone have a TFT with DVI input and has tried it using both types of cable?

Are we talking RGB > composite, DTS > DD kind of standards?
I have two LG 1710B(U) TFT Screens and had one running VGA the other DVI. (They are now both on DVI btw)
The DVI was slightly better colour wise and didnt need any correction unlike the VGA. I'd say the difference isn't noticeable to most people unless your very picky.
Although the difference between my LG and the cheapo nobrand TFT at work is noticeable!
It's almost impossible to show someone the difference without them being there in person as a photo doesn't show the subtle differences your eye can pickup.
What Atomic said, I'd have to agree. I've got a Mitsubishi DV175 and I prefer the DVI over analogue simply because it gives you a great picture there and then. With the analogue, I find it not as sharp and in order to get the colours I want, I'd have to adjust the RGB levels. To me, I can't be bothered doing that.
I think it depends a lot on the TFT as well as the cable and the ouput from your vid card...
At work we've had Samsung TFTs and TBH there's not much difference betwen the VGA and the DVI input - it's very slight though you can tell the difference (just). On the Sony one I've got at home the VGA input is bloody awful... Really bad - no amount of tweaking makes it particularly clear but the DVI input is great.
I have a LG 1710B too and works a treat on DVI I think it does look slightly better and sharper.
D-Sub still looks good though :D
This is not really a fair comparison, as the quality is dependant upon the mastering/mixing process. Quite often the DD soundtrack on a film can be better than the DTS (despite DTS theoretically being better).Quote:

I've got a Hitachi 17" TFT and much prefer the DVI input. I have heard people saying that on this particular screen , the Analogue input has better colours, but the sharpness you get with DVI is what counts for me :)
Thanks for the input guys, looks like there is no general rule of thumb I guess, and it depends on the quality of the kit plus some random element :)

For Chez, I guess I should have put "maximum potential quality of DTS > maximum potential quality of DD for identical soundtrack" :p
Of the films I've directly compared DTS to DD, DTS has been marginally better (and in some specific areas briefly significantly better) - Lethal Weapon 1-3, Die Hard trilogy, Underworld.
Most of the time the difference is indistinguishable, but I've not come across any film yet where the DD track is superior to the DTS one.
