Exclamation Which graphics card for me? Please Help!

I'm building my first PC and would like to know what graphics card you experts think I should buy?

I want to play the latest games at their highest settings across 3 monitors and in 3d as well.

AMD have eyefinity and hd3d where as Nvidia have 3d Surround.

What would you recommend? I don't really have a budget.

(Please note that my mobo will run SLI/CROSSFIRE cards at x8 x8 PCI speed.)

A 6950 or a 6970 would fit the bill. Just make sure you have a decent PSU to feed those cards. Can be had for under £200 if you know where to look.

Re: Which graphics card for me? Please Help!

Nvidia generally does have better 3D support although the latest Deus Ex game seems to support HD3D natively. It also seems that HD6970 2GB cards are getting harder to get hold off too. It could be down to the HD7000 series being launched this year.

Have read that the sapphire 6950 toxic is a good choice and apparantly overclocks well, thinking about buying one myself. No doubt though that NVIDIA 3D vision trumps ATI HD3D so if that could be a factor in your purchase consider NVIDIA

6950/6970 would be a great choice dependent on budget

If you're planning to play a lot in 3D, nvidia would definitely be the way to go. What's your budget on the graphics cards?

Of course they perform well! They're the top of NVIDIA's line up! One is only around £650!

I'd personally wait for the Radeon 7000's and then get either a 7950 or a 7870. But if you need to buy now, get a 6950/6970 unless you specifically want NVIDIA, in which case a 560/560Ti would do.

Re: Which graphics card for me? Please Help!

Thanks for the replies everyone, as for a budget there isn't one but I'm thinking it may be a good idea to wait until the new gpus. When do you think that will be?

Also, am I right in thinking that a gtx 590 will drop to around £300 when the next lot come out?

No, that'd be pretty unlikely to happen.

You're better off getting a £200 card every two years, rather than a £400 - heck, even a £600 one - every four years.
