    His hd 6670 1gb gddr5 - wtf

I bought this card to replace my old 9800 GT 'XXX' Edition which I could run Bad Company 2 on 1680 x 1050 maximum settings. What can I say well the 6670 is either the biggest piece of **** graphics card and although it has much better specs than the 9800, it's much much worse in performance. OR There's something wrong with it. I've noticed that Ebuyer have discontinued this model recently :S

I have to run BC2 on "something" x 900 on low settings and I get between 1-25 fps. 25 if I'm looking at the ground! I've tried overclocking to it's maximum which is 920mhz cpu and 1120mhz ram (shown like that for some reason in ATI Tray Tools) and it's a little better but still ****.

I used the Nvidia removal tool to remove drivers from my 9800 so that shouldn't be causing a problem.

    I just don't know

Nothing wrong with it, the 6670 is a lower-mid range graphics card. In no sense would I expect it to be better than a 9800GT - it should have at best the same performance, as it's an incremental improvement on the 4670 and 5670, both of which were slower than a 9800GT.

I'd suggest reading reviews, rather than just trying to interpret tech specs - the designs of the cards are very different. I assume that you looked at the number and speed of the shaders and assumed a 480 shader card would be faster than the 100ish on a 9800GT? ATI cards use a large number of simple shaders, whereas NVidia cards use a lower number of more complex shaders. Nvidia also run their cards with a split clock so the shaders run a lot faster than the res of the card. So Nvidia's cards can do a lot more with a smaller number of shaders.

So, that's explained why your card isn't faster - but you don't actually ask any questions in your post. So what would you like? Suggestions of a better replacement?

Well you pretty much answered my 'question'. But I have been on toms hardware and benchmarks for the card are much better than mine, theirs could perform about the same as the 9800. 6670 is an £85 card which is worth about 50-60. My card is only a tenner less than the 9800 cost 3 years ago. It's no wonder really that everyone's moving over to Intel CPUs and Geforce graphics cards when back in the day (before AMD took over ATI) it was the opposite way round and they were the daddy when it came to performance for your £/$.

You've been had if you paid £85 for a 6670! You can pick up 512MB DDR5 versions for £20 less than that. Or a 6750 - an inherently *much* faster graphics card - for £10 less. The cheapest 6770 on ebuyer is only £87.

Don't forget that benchmarks are only comparable if you use exactly the same system, cooling, card, settings, resolution, drivers, subsystem and repeatable secion of game play. A couple of extra background processes on your computer could easily slow games down if they're using up a bit of CPU or memory resources. So you can't ever compare your results to the results on a website.

AMD still do good bang for buck if you read the reviews, forum discussions, ask the right questions, and shop around for the good prices. I think you've just been unlucky with your particular purchase - it sounds like a little bit more research could have got you a much better card for the price...

I think I'm going to stick it on ebay, might lose a few quid but gain some performance before it's too late!

Looks like they are going for about 60 quid on there, minus fees.

YOU paid too much for the card. The HD6670 is a small bus powered card meant for entry level systems. It is a card which at most is not worth more than 65 quid.

A factor which you have missed is that the newer AMD and Nvidia cards under 100 quid are not necessarily faster but have added DX11 and improved power consumption to the mix.

BTW,the equivalent Nvidia card is the GT440 GDDR5 which is slower than the HD5670 GDDR5. The HD5670 GDDR5 at around 50 to 55 quid is faster than any Nvidia card upto the GTS450 GDDR5. The HD5750/HD6750 which was launched in 2009 is around 70 to 75 quid is as fast as the standard clocked GTS450 GDDR5 which was launched in 2010. Only the GTS450 cards which have large factory overclocks can match an HD5770/HD6770 which cost around 85 to 90 quid. The GTS450 is comparable in speed to a GTS250 and the HD5770/HD6770 is comparable to an HD4870 in non DX11 games.

Moving up the GTX550TI is slower than the HD6790 at around the 100 pound mark. For around 110 to 120 quid the GTX460 1GB and HD6850 trade blows. However, the HD6870 1GB can be had for as low as 125 quid which makes it better value than both those cards.

Another thing is that the HD6670 will run BFBC2 in DX11 and the 9800GT in DX10.

With maximum settings at 1680x1050 the HD6670 produces an average framerate higher than 25FPS:

From what I've seen the lower-end 6xxx cards are all pretty overpriced in general. If you really need a sub-6850 card you can usually find the 5xxx equivalents for cheaper.
