"Our source told us that the original driver that the press benchmarked back in April when the chip was launched was roughly 30 per cent slower then the hardware is capable of. "
Thats gonna be quite an increase if this is true.
Will be cool to see some test results from the release..

"The world is governed by very different personages from what is imagined by those who are not behind the scenes." Benjamin Disraeli, British Prime Minister. 1876.
Jeez that'll be very impressive if it makes a 30% increase......Seems quite high, were they just rushing to get the card realeased first time round so made some crappy drivers?

Well if thats the case youd think they would get their act together and write good drivers in the first placeOriginally Posted by Shogun
I mean thats a joke.
hmm.. So ATI release a faster card than nVidia, and nVidia rewrite their drivers for a performance increase.... And this is a new story? How bad will the image quality be this time?
nVidia knows drivers, that's all I know.
Won't open my mouth concerning that until earliest tomorrow when I've seen something about it... The world will just be a better place to live in that way I think![]()
Light travels faster than sound. Is this why some people appear bright until you hear them speak?
Performance in Far Cry was disapointing so a 30% increase would be more like what I was expecting in the first place. They just don't make affordable the CPU's fast enough to stress these new gen graphics cards.
All those who said 9800Pro prices would fall when the X800 was released
for being so optimistic.
I bet its more optimisations for far cray and the like (basically anything with the way its meant to be played crap at the start), we will see though. If it is actually 30% increase then it would be mighty impressive.

The performance in farcry was due to the inital engine runnning NV3X shader paths this will be updated to nv4x thus faster.
I suspect we will see an average of 10% across the board.
Also just because the new driver is shipping doesn't mean that you guys will get it until it is WHQL'd.... /me looks in his inbox ' o-h yes'
Also I think some people have been burnt on driver updates in the past. All I can say is I think NVIDIA are good at dev of drivers, without doubt they seem to be able to find performance from nothing.... seriously people will be looking for cheating in this driver set without doubt.
I bet the new drivers will be put under a LOT of scrutiny. I get the feeling ATI's drivers aren't put under as much scrutiny - I'm sure they have their own "cheats," but if they don't affect IQ so blatently and are a little more subtle, then people don't seem to care...Originally Posted by David

Id like to see some evidence of that!Originally Posted by David
I cant find it atm but on ati site they let peopel ask questions about it and explained how it all worked.
nvidia have a somwhat large reputation for cheating, yet I do not know of a single case where ati has over-optimised with drivers.
Ati was recently accused becuase of certian program names were found in the EXE, these programs were games which did not work with AA (splintercell for example) and so ati decided to disable it by defualt for these apps. Not cheating, yet they were still accused by nvidia fan boys....
