    Advice on graphics card update

    Hiya all,

I am looking to update my NVDIA 9800 GTX card, I have found a few options but not sure on performance and value for money.

Here are the three I am looking at (sorry for not making links but I can't til 5 posts are made - These G cards are from novatech.co.uk)

    Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560Ti OC 1024MB GDDR5 (£186)

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560 Ti Super OC 1024MB GDDR5 (£259)

    Gigabyte GeForce GTX 570 OC 1280MB GDDR5 (£284)

There is a huge price difference between the 560 OC and the Super OC and for value of money to gaming performance, I am not sure which one to go for. my budge is around he 200-250 price bracket but I could push to the 290 if there was that much of a difference in performance.

I am trying to upgrade in time for SWTOR (Star Wars the old republic) and I am looking to upgrade in November.

    My system specs are

    AMD X2 6000+
    4gb RAM 667mhz
G7 power extreme 780W PSU (which has 2x 6(8) pin pci express ports)
NVIDIA 9800 GTX (which I look to upgrade)
    500gb SATA 2 HDD
    Windows 7

    Thanks all for the advice.

Re: Advice on graphics card update

The 1GB MSI GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II OC can be had at Scan for £187, and it generally gets excellent reviews. It's pre-overclocked to 4200MHz GDDR5, GPU 880MHz, Shader 1760MHz.

I don't see the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560 Ti Super OC 1024MB GDDR5 on Novatech's site, but £259 is a crazy price for a 560 Ti. Much better to get a 570 in that price range - like the 1280MB MSI GTX 570 Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC at £256 from Scan.

There's also the ATI HD 6950 range around £220-225 if you're not already decided on Nvidia. A good choice there is the 2GB MSI HD 6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC. It's also pre-overclocked to 5200MHz GDDR5, GPU 850MHz - £220 from Scan.

If you don't like the MSI cards, the Asus Direct CUII is also a great, quiet cooler found on both both their Nvidia and AMD GPUs - but IIRC takes up 3 slots.

Re: Advice on graphics card update

Thanks for the advice, I am looking to stick with Nvidia and I see what you mean about the super OC card it was there yesterday but it seems to have been removed from their site. Perhaps they have stopped selling it.

    I'll probably go for the - >
    Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560Ti OC 1024MB GDDR5

    It's specs are - 900MHz Core, 1800MHz Shader, 384 Cuda Cores, 2 x DVI, Mini HDMI

For the money it seems good specs and of course Gigabyte are awesome with overclocking and keeping the card and system cool with their windforce.
