    Question 1280mb 570 sli --> 2.5gb 570 sli?

    Hi all,

    New to the forums so first I'd like to say "Hello!".

    Right now I'll start as I mean to go on, with a question...

    On various forums I've seen it being mentioned that certain newer games can use more than 1GB VRAM at 1080p (Shogun 2 for example).
    I currently play at 1920*1200 and have SLI 1280MB GTX 570s. Currently I'm not having problems, but the most demanding game I play is probably "Call of Duty: Black Ops". with the new games coming out (and some newer games already out) I'm wondering if I'd be better off trying to sell these reference Palit cards and trying to get a couple of the 2.5GB cards (likely EVGA)?

    I know Palit are a more budget brand, so I'm also a little worried about overclocking the cards too much as I've heard stories about some 570s not being cool adequately. I'd hope that being newer cards and being made by EVGA that they might be a little more robust?

    I realise it wouldn't be much (if any) performance boost in most games, so would it be worth it for the few games that need more VRAM?

    Thanks guys!

    Tbh I would wait until the 28m cards are released before upgrading, as you say your not having any problems so why go through all the hassle for the minimal gain, it's just not worth it

    I'm running sli 470's atm and they play all my games fine.

    Sorry, didn't mean 2.5GB combined. I meant 2 of the EVGA 2.5GB GTX 570 cards in SLI.

    My common sense tells me the same thing pooley did, but that's that voice in the back of my head (that I think has memorized my credit card number) that is telling me to "upgrade"!

    Re: 1280mb 570 sli --> 2.5gb 570 sli?

    Hexus's review of a 1GB and 2GB 6950s side by side suggests that there's absolutely no benefit to > 1GB frame buffer at the minute. There might be at some point in the future, but for now - and particularly at 1920x1200, which is a fairly moderate resolution - I wouldn't bother spending a load of cash just for some more frame-buffer: it won't get you any noticable performance increase...

    You can run Black Ops at 60FPS fully maxed out on a GTS250 @1920x1200 (and pretty much at 2560x1600)
    If your running SLI 570s and Black Ops is the most demanding game your playing, I suggest you do some reading before making any more purchases!
