Exclamation Another BF3 graphics thread (sorry!)

I'm currently building my first rig to play BF3, can any of you recommend any gfx cards that will play it half decent without breaking the bank? (I want to get the next-gen cards when they come out but don't think that will be for a while yet.) I know it's still in Beta but any suggestions would be helpful.

You could still do with telling us what your budget is. To be safe, you should look at a GTX560 Ti as base performance (@1080p).
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Re: Another BF3 graphics thread (sorry!)

As for a budget, I don't really have one, but I don't want to spend too much on cards that will get replaced in a matter of months, so maybe £400 at the very max.

For now I'm running one screen at 1920 x 1080 but when the new high-end cards are here I want to be gaming across three displays at high settings on all games.

Then don't build your new rig yet

Seriously: if you know you're going to want a different graphics card in a few months hold off building. Sure, you might not get to play the game on release day, but you'll save yourself hundreds of £££ not buying components you simply don't need. Wait for the game to be released and benchmarked, see which cards play it best, and then make up your mind about whether to build something now and upgrade in a year or so, or to wait a couple of months for the next gen of graphics cards to be released.

Thanks for the advice. Does anyone know what time roughly the next-gen cards are out? Will it be 2011? Also I would hold off building but I ideally need it done for end of this year.

    Not in the enthusiast segment.

Wait for BF3 to come out and drivers to be optimised, then look at the benchmarks and use that to determine what to get.

Re: Another BF3 graphics thread (sorry!)

I have also had this dilemma, as have been researching parts for my first build in preparation for BF3 and Skyrim.

Personally, I think the GTX 570 is the way to go as indications from the beta are that it can run the high settings pretty well, and on price/performance its in between the 560 ti's and and the 580. Having said that the 560 ti's are easily the best bang for your buck so it really depends how much you want to spend due to diminished price : performance returns the more you spend.

With regard to the 7000/600 series coming early next year, that initially bothered me, coming soo soon after I intend to build my new PC, but at the end of the day there's always going to be something new round the corner. I think the a 570 should last a couple of years anyway.

Having said everything I just did, I just realised you said you intend to play over 3 screens. In which case I think you'll need more VRAM so maybe the 6970 would be a better choice

Too true, thanks for the advice. I'll wait a few more days until the benchmarks then I should be set on what I'm getting. I also noticed that Asus have since revised the motherboard that I bought with PCI3, oh well.

Re: Another BF3 graphics thread (sorry!)

The game seems to have leaked today as well so no doubt some 'real' (aside form the irony) figures and suggestions will no doubt show up soon.

I've heard on a budget the GTS 450 is decent, not going to get max graphics but will definitely run it and has great HD features for general PC use and HD playback too

An Rev 1 6950 OC'ed and unlocked to 6970 plays it good in Eyefinity, if you can't get your hands on that, then a 6950 till you buy the next gen cards would be a wise choice.

Do you really want a next gen card through if you spending this much money already? Don't see much point.. If you spending so much already, get a 6990.

Re: Another BF3 graphics thread (sorry!)

Im really interested in this one but Ive seen quite a few threads over the last day or two which kind of suggests the 560tis are struggling for some reason with BF3. Might be a week or so before we see the better drivers.
