Just a few questions. (AIW 9600Pro)

Is it normal when you go 'Advanced' in ATI settings that picture gets (very shortly) wavy for less then second?

Also a few waves in picture shows when you call TV or DVD option from Remote.

Is this normal?

I have tested just for sake of curiosity ATI diagnostic performance and I have received most ridiculous note...quote : "Failed : MMX architecture - Checks that the CPU supports MMX instructions Test result: CPU does not support MMX. If your CPU does not support MMX, Multimedia Center performance will be very limited. You will need to upgrade your CPU if it does not support MMX. A PIII 600 or equivalent is the recommended minimum"

Why my AMD64 is not recognized and is this a serious problem?

I received additional note about my two SATA drives that they are not DMA capable, what on earth is
this nonsense about?

Why there is only 16 & 32bit color? Is there some reason why there is no 24bit color?

for most of it i have no idea... but i dont think there is a 24 bit mode you can choose... well there isnt for me, or anyone i have seen!

24bit mode is 8bit × 3, 8bits for each red, green and blue. 32bit mode is 8bit × 4, 8bits for each red, green, blue and alpha (how transparent something is).
most things think that 24bit = 32bit anyway.

I would try re installing the motherboard drivers. I had loads of weird problems showing me AGP was not active and processor not being recognised. Happens every time I do a clean install, so I install all the system drivers then restart etc then install the board drivers (Via for me) and everything just falls into place how it should be

I just hope when I switch back to my good old friend Win2000Pro things will get started ...

The MMX thing is a well documented bug - ignore
DMA not enabled on drives - also ignore, mine tells me the same for my scsi drives.

As for the waves what do you mean? I get a small crackle of static when chnaging channels etc., as there is a small delay in the tuner, but I'm unsure what you mean by wavey

Most cards flicker when you go into the advanced control panel - it's just the driver probing the card IIRC.

Yeah, don't worry about that, my card does the same (AIW 9800SE)

From my programming days I recall that it was recommended to use even boundaries when dealing with memory addresses where possible, to get the best speed.
This is why I would guess you get the options for 16-bit (2 bytes) or 32-bit (4 bytes) but not 24 bits (3 bytes).

In fact, with the advent of 32-bit processors some manufacturers were recommending 32-bit over 16-bit for better performance, as the number of operations was not changing but they were using the full capacity of the memory registers.

This is for real-time graphics, of course - in static images (e.g. raytraced) you only need 24 bits again or it's a waste of space.
