Question Nvidia GTX 560 ti vs AMD HD 6950

    HI All,
I am in a dilema of choosing between these 2 graphics cards.. Both cards cost almost the same in my region...
I want to play BF3 ofcoarse but i also want to play games which come after that also...As the 6950 does perform better i am inclined more towards it..
    My choice dependencies:
    1. No multi monitor
    2. Dont think i will ever afford 2 graphics cards in tandemn(so ignore CS and SLI support)
    3. No 3D monitor
So in short i want the best among these 2 cards which will play games better(at 1080p) and also has better video technology ( i mean best experience in watching movies in terms of picture quality)

Both are excellent. Wait for BF3 to come out and the drivers to be updated then see which performs better.

Re: Nvidia GTX 560 ti vs AMD HD 6950

If you look on Toms graphics charts, you will see that overall there is absolutely nothing between the two cards across a wide range of test.....they are literally neck-and-neck.

In the UK the 560Ti is a good 30ukp cheaper - which makes it a no-brainer for me.....if the prices are closer where you are, then you might need to dive deeper into reviews to see if either card tickles your fancy,

Re: Nvidia GTX 560 ti vs AMD HD 6950

The HD6950 1GB can be had for around £175 to £180 but they tend to sell out quite quickly in price. However,it is easier to get a GTX560TI for around £170. At the stock clockspeed of 822MHZ,the GTX560TI is around 5% slower than an HD6950 1GB in DX11 games:

    http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...review-17.html

Most GTX560TI 1GB cards seem to be pre-overclocked,so one of the 880MHZ ones probably will be around the same speed.

The HD6950 2GB can be had for around £190 to £210 and this compares quite well to the price of the GTX560TI 2GB.

    Thanks for the reply..
Well the overclocked GTX 560's are harder to find in my region and are more expensive
the 1gb models are all what i can afford right now both these models are available for quite a good price here on the local streets.. and coincidentally both costing the same... :|
if the 560 cud hv been got for cheaper it would have been my choice for sure

If you can list the prices of the GTX560TI and HD6950 cards in rupees, maybe we can suggest a decent one for you.

With the BF3 beta AMD cards do better ATM:

    http://www.techspot.com/review/448-b...nce/page5.html

I would still wait until release as newer drivers have been released which improves framerates for both AMD and Nvidia cards.

Are the first three prices from shops? If there is a problem with a card I would assume it would assume a shop would be easier to deal with.

    Edit!!

    Are those prices without tax??

The HD6950 2GB seems quite cheap!!

I would also check what games you get with the cards.

Yes the prices are without including the tax...
The Saphire radeon HD6950 2gb Game Edition ~ Rs. 14000 is actually the price i found online of someone who bought it from the same street i would be buying from (SP road bangalore, India)

So I assume its a new card from a shop on that street?? I would check what games you will get with it. In the UK many of the HD6800 and HD6900 series cards come with a download voucher for both DiRT3 and Deus Ex:Human Revolution. Since the Sapphire HD6950 2GB is a "Game Edition" I would assume some games were included.

The HD6950 1GB will be slightly faster than the GTX560TI 1GB from the shops you listed. The MSI GTX560TI cards you listed from the online retailer have very good coolers.

However, one thing. The HD6950 is a long card whereas the GTX560TI is much shorter. What case do you have??

Yes i think its Dirt 3 game that is included..
And you made a very good point about the case.. My case is not very big and i dont even remember its name.. However i currently had a HD 4850 which fit well with about 2 inches of space left to the drive bay(not removable)
I am considerring buying a new case if i can get something nice for cheap..
I had forgotten to mention an important factor as well, the PSU i have is Corsair 450VX and i was wonderring if that suffices the needs for these cards?? i am hoping it does cant afford to buy a new PSU as well

The HD6950 2GB tends to be tad more efficient under load than a GTX560TI 1GB at stock clockspeeds under load. However, the GTX560TI pre-overclocked cards consume more power.

The HD6950 and HD6970 are around 10.8" long:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SpxihI0pKc

    A reference GTX560TI is around 9" long:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FquQBU4fp4I

However, the HD6950 and HD6970 have top mounted power connectors.

Re: Nvidia GTX 560 ti vs AMD HD 6950

Sounds like the 6950 is my best choice considerring power consumption and performance.. But i think i might need a new chassis to fit it
The 560 ti is a perfect fit in my current chassis..
    Cat your suggestion for me??
    6950 or 560?? :|

For BF3 ATM the HD6950 2GB looks a better choice. However, since you might need to get a new case it will probably be the more expensive choice. I would get a tape measure and see how much space you actually have to the hard drive cage. Can the hard drive cage be removed??

If you have 2 inches spare on a 4850 then you'll fit a 6950 fine.
