    460GTX SLI replacement advice

    Hi All,

My 2 x MSI 460GTX Hawx talon attacks are back with MSI for repair/replace/refund. Seeing as they are no longer made I'm guessing that it is either repair or refund.

So if I do get refunded what am I going to replace them with? I'm in the £300 - £350 price bracket and so was considering a pair of Asus 1GB GeForce GTX 560 Ti DirectCU II TOP from Scan coming in at £350. Anyone got a better idea, or anywhere to get the cards cheaper?

Nope, rma'd through Scan who were very prompt. Out of their hands a bit now though so will have to wait and see what happens and how long for MSI to sort them out...... in the meantime I have no gaming and am going a bit stirfry. Wife and kids don't know whats hit them.

Well I prob won't know whats happeneing with this RMA for a couple of weeks so they'll be in stock in Dabs by then. have to check what the difference is once Itake into account free Scan shipping.

I don't spose there are new GPU's out in the next few weeks that are gonna change the pricing structure enough for me to get 570's does anyone know?

Adding £0 won't make any difference (Dabs is free delivery).

    Nope, there's not.

well if its scan you can kiss goodbye to your idea of a full refund.

after they factor in usage you will be lucky to get half that amount!

?? hang on the cards have a 1 year warranty and I've returned them within the warranty period. They have tested them and accepted that they are faulty and sent them to MSI for repair/refund/replace. So surely they have to either give me repaired card (most likely, just need new fans/coolers) a replacement (unlikely as they are no longer made) or a full refund? To replace the cards will still cost the same. In fact the only 460 GTX MSI Hawks that Scan have are the version below the ones i got, and they are selling them at the same price nearly a year on that i bought the better ones for back then, so it will in fact cost more to supply equivalent cards.

On what grounds do you think Scan will reduce the refund?

    Re: 460GTX SLI replacement advice

on the grounds that they do pro-rata refunds unlike nearly all the other retailers who give a full refund if they are unable to replace, scan deduct wear and tear so you will be better off asking for a repair unless MSI give the nod for an equivalent card.

search the scan forums, you will find quite a few miffed customers who have been bitten.

Same as just about everyone does in these circumstances.

They cannot be repaired (or its financially non-viable) and they are used.....so they give a %age of the original price back taking into account price changes and use.

Scan have never done it to me before, although others have....it's normally a real pain.

You may get very lucky and get 560s.....OTOH, you may get real unlucky and get 550Ti's

Lets see the outcome with your cards this is not always the final solution MVR are the last resort and are made from our supplier/manufacturer and passed to you. If we can not repair/replace the same card we will always try to work with you to find an alternative as i have just said MVR is the last resort. OK I've just posted this question in the Scan Care aftersales bit as well but well done for beating me to it with a response here I did also ask about manufacturer return times in there so please can you answer that bit too.

What I am very worried about is to hear is that you can apply MVR to a product that is still under warranty at all. I've looked through your terms and conditions and its not mentioned there so whats the point of 1 or 2 year warranties at all?

It is very unlikely you will get a refund. They always try to repair them if not they will give you a replacement. That is what happened to me.

Repair would be fine. Replacement would be ok too so long as it was for same spec or above. Only reason I'm worrying is that the only 460GTX with a similar spec they have in stock is quite a bit more cash nowdays oddly.

What I am very worried about is to hear is that you can apply MVR to a product that is still under warranty at all. I've looked through your terms and conditions and its not mentioned there so whats the point of 1 or 2 year warranties at all?
Had a think about this overnight and actually it makes sense. If we got to the stage where for some reason we needed to discuss a refund for a card that was in warrenty then the fair thing is to refund what it would cost me to replace it with an item of similar performance, not the initial cost as that would buy me a faster card.

So so long as my interperation here is right I'm a happy bunny so long as it just doesn't take too long to work out one way or another
