    New Graphics Card

I'm currently using the integrated GPU from the Gigabyte Radeon 3200 motherboard but the problem is I can't use the HDMI and DVI port together , it's either the HDMI and DSUB or the DVI and DSUB.

Need a low power card as I don't play games or anything demanding, just office, surfing and very very basic photo editin (resize, crop, compress etc.)

Don't want to spend too much either.

Oh, one other thing, have been threatening to try Linux for a number of years - are ATI still behind Nvidia in this field?

    Any recommendations?

    Thank you.

    Re: New Graphics Card

I would recommend a Nvidia GT 520 because they are silent and cost around £40 they will support 2 monitors and have a HDMI, DVI and D-Sub connectors you will be able to use the HDMI and the DVI at the same time too. You can get one at scan for the best deal.
They draw around 15w at idle and draw about 30w under light load they will draw higher 50w-100w under heavy load but you don't sound like you do anything that uses heavy load.
But if you want to stick with ATI that you could get a HD 6450 for around £30 they are just about the same as the Nvidia card and draw around the same power. Again you can get one at scan for the best deal.
The choice is yours whether you get a Nvidia or an ATI card they perform about the same and cost about the same. I also don't think you should get Linux as it doesn't other anything different than most operating systems.
    Hope you found this useful
    Regards, Rob

    Re: New Graphics Card

On the Linux front ATI are better supported by the open source drivers, but Nvidia's proprietary driver is by far and away the best. If you're after pure free software (which I doubt) then go ATI, if you're not fussed about that then you're best off with Nvidia.
As for your usage I'd say any NV card will be fine as long as it has the outputs you need.

The GT500 and GT400 series are very similar and AFAIK idle power consumption is not very different.

This GT430 looks good value for money:

I'm a complete noob with current GPUs so please excuse my lack of knowledge

Scan are selling 1GB Point of View (POV) GT520 SDDR3 Low Profile would this be better than the GT430 for a couple of quid more?
