New GPU to replace ageing GTX-260

    Hey guys,

I've got £125 to spend on a newer GPU to replace my ageing nVidia GTX 260, what would you suggest!?

    Thanks,

if you need one now i'd say this is the best deal at the mo:
    http://www.ebuyer.com/248745-powerco...6870-1gbd5-2dh
    AMD HD6870 - £126.99

or wait till next year when amd and nvidia has gone 28nm

    Radeon HD 6850?

Kwai has found quite a good deal on a 6870 there too.

YEs if you want to stick with nvidia you're going to need to stump up a bit more cash or keep a close eye out for 2nd hand bargains.
For nvidia you're looking at a gtx560(non-ti) which is around the same performance as the 6870, around £145ish http://www.ebuyer.com/283727-zotac-g...d-zt-50708-10m or up your budget to around £185-190 to get the gtx560ti http://www.ebuyer.com/280613-msi-gtx...twinfrozrii-oc
The next card down in nvidia's current range is the gtx550Ti (around £95-105) which performs around the same level as the gtx260 216sp which is also on a par with the 5770 and 6770

A gxt460 1gb (not SE version) would be ok if you can pick it up for under £120.

Re: New GPU to replace ageing GTX-260

I have decided to leave this for now and upgrade to a SSD instead because I feel it will give a larger performance increase until I can save up some more £££

Thanks for the replies though guys ^^

Re: New GPU to replace ageing GTX-260

I've just gone from a 260 to a used 560ti - it's being rmaed at the moment due to excessive coil whine, but performance was fantastic and I think it's a great stop gap until kepler.

Re: New GPU to replace ageing GTX-260

I had a GTS 250 which held it's own for ages. However I upgraded to a second hand 5870 (was able to get it for £100, expect to pay a *little* more) and bang for buck I don't think that kind of deal can be beaten.

Just one caveat: you would need to have a good enough PSU with enough pci express power wires.

    I agree

I went to an SSD and it was a huge improvement for everything

and tbh.. a 260 isn't a slow card really... it's still pretty good unless you have a huge monitor for many games
