ATi (AMD) Radeon HD4830 Fan Speed Control

    Evening all,

I've got a Radeon HD4830 in my HTPC which, until recently, was perfectly quiet (the whole build was designed with low noise levels in mind). However it now doesn't seem to allow the fan speed to drop, even when the GPU is mostly idle, and so runs faster (and makes more noise) than I need it to.

Is there a way to manually adjust the temperature profiles? Had a good look through the (awful) AMD control panel and it doesn't give the options - just the ability to overclock it should I so wish.

    Any thoughts much appreciated

MSI Afterburner may work, I think it has fan control.

Msi Afterburner does let you set up your own fan profile.

Have you looked into why the situation has changed? It may be that dust filters are clogged and you haven't got proper airflow through your case, you could have moved it to a hotter location (or less clearance around the case)? The GPU cooler itself maybe clogged up.

You could also underclock your card if you wanted it to chill out a bit, or as suggested change the fan profile (possible some settings available for thermal control in the bios too).

Sapphire Trixx is also very good if you can find a copy. But I'm not sure you get fan control....

Rivatuner? It's very easy to set up "launchers" on this software, and usually allows you to drop the card to REALLY low speeds.

    I currently have my GTX580 @ 150 Core, 300 Shader, 80 Memory. From a standard of 782 Core, 1564 Shader, 1002 Memory.

Also got the fan speed at 30% which is 10% less than the standard speed.

If you're interested, I could write a small guide on how to set up "launchers" and how to set the card to automatically slow down the fan when the heat is low.
