9600pro seems to be going for cheap nowadays. You might want to wait a little as when the newer cards become more mainstream i expect prices to drop. The card in my sig runs ut2004,ut2003,nfsu fine

Depends on how much you have.

£100 would get you a 9600XT which would be fine for games without any AA or AF, but most (including myself) would say fork out an extra £30-ish for a 9800Pro - its the best performance-value-for-money thing out there.

But if you want 170FPS on UT2004 with all the eyecandy then ure gonna have to fork out for the X800 or 6800 series looking for between £275-£350 depending on which one you get.

My advice is go for the 9800pro, or if you have extra money, get the 9800pro and give the rest of the money to me

get the 9800pro if you are on a budget. If not, nvidia 6800 or ATi's X800 would be nice

Is there a preferred manufacturer for a 9800 Pro?

I also have a crappy old 9200SE and would like a new card. I read in a mag that the Gainward GF FX5900XT Ultra/1100XT Golden Sample 128MB 8xAGP TV/DVI Retail (5896) is a great card for the amount it costs. But is it better than the 9800Pro?

Also is there any new midranged graphics cards coming out soon? Maybe i should wait a while?

I also need to buy a new monitor. I heard TFT was not as good as crt for games. is this true?

Any help from you guys on pickign a monitor?

    Cheers

At the moment you can get a 9800 for the same price as the gainward card and it more future proof. The radeons dx9 preformance is much better and games such as far cry and ut2004 will be smoother.
