Apologies - I only really play BF3. So the 79** is not hugely attractive given that the performance gain is so small. There's no return on my investment ! (Paging Shaithis)

They are already slightly OC'd. Do you just use the auto-tune in the CCC ? I have heard that it's a very blunt instrument.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

With BF3 supposedly the drivers run a code path optimised for VLIW based AMD cards(fail). Since the first full HD7900 series driver is out next month IIRC,I would not pass full judgement until then.

At least with other games performance improved only a month after launch:

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/5476/a...-7950-review/2

I saw this review of one of the first non-referance HD7970 cards:

    http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/..._card_review/4

Better power draw whilst being pre-overclocked. However,it would be a good idea to wait until Nvidia releases their cards as more competition will mean lower prices.

Regarding overclocking the HD5870,I would use MSI Afterburner with the voltage tweaking enabled.

Not the drivers. The game code. AMD can't fix it in drivers.

So, not worth upgrading to a 79** and will have to wait for Kepler if I want any BF3 impact. It would be ridiculous to upgrade to a 580 at this point.

Maybe, but that precludes DICE and EA not providing a fix. OTH,with most of the HD7000 series being released soon,I would suspect there should be fix. However, still it would be better for Kepler to be released first to help bring prices down for everyone.

Even on the AMD side, the HD7870 looks to be around 75% of an HD7970. It will be interesting to see how a pair of these perform and how much they would cost.

Why would anyone want to buy a GTX580 ATM when the HD7950 is the same price and slightly faster overall:

    http://techreport.com/articles.x/22384/6

    http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/..._card_review/4

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...rk,3123-6.html

The first test uses the "Operation Guillotine" level as opposed to the more common "Going Hunting" level. The second is the "Operation SwordBreaker" level. The last is "Going Hunting" which most review websites use. The thing is the HD7950 1.5GB is also being released.

The only reason anyone would want buy a GTX580 for now is if you really need CUDA or play 3D games.

OTH,if you are spending more than £250 on a graphics card it would still be better to wait for the new AMD and Nvidia cards.

    BF3 benchmarks are useless anyway.

I still don't consistently get 60FPS with everything on low bar textures, mesh, and AA @ 1080p.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Thats with your overclocked GTX480?? Isn't that comparable to a GTX580??

It seems that BF3 is even worse than Crysis2 with everything enabled.

    Overclock them!! Every little helps!!

OTH,you could always ditch your current cards while they still have a reasonable value:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/csc/i.html?LH_...&_sop=15&_sc=1

An HD5870 1GB goes for between £120 to £150 secondhand on Ebay.

Aria have 480s for about 160. Not sure if that is a sideways move until th enew line or not.

It at stock now. In the middle of a 64 player battle you just can't plan for what might unfold. I'd expect its a similar story even with a 7970.

I'd consider it if it wasn't for the fact my PSU couldn't handle a second 480.
