The 2012 what graphics cards have you owned thread!
I did this a while back:

Well, this is what I said last time:

8800GTX
Radeon 9250 256MB
Obviously they were spread over several machines ;) The principle machine went from FX5200 -> 9800Pro, then I built a new box with the 8800GTX in. The rest cycled around various computers and are now all sat in a big bag in a cupboard waiting for me to sell / freecycle them ;)
And since then I've invested in:
nv 7900GTO
nv 8400GS
ati HD3470
And I've scrounged from old machines:
nv GeForce 2 MX
Think that's all the additions: as you can tell I'm mostly sticking to mainstream entry level graphics!

(nv) MX440
(ati) 9800se
(ati) X800XL
(nv) 8800GTX
(nv) GTX285

Then a long break from PC gaming
64mb Nvidia Geforce 4 MX440 - For all of a week.
128mb Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti4200
128mb ATi Radeon 9800 - Flashed to 9800pro.
256mb ATi Radeon X800pro - Flashed to XT - unlocked all 16 pipelines.
256mb ATi Radeon X1800XT - Didn't play ball with my motherboard, hence the sideways upgrade to below.
256mb Nvidia Geforce 7900GT - 1st Card overclocked and voltmodded for insane performance - died within 2 weeks, Replacement was left stock.
512mb Nvidia Geforce 7950GX2
896mb Nvidia Geforce GTX260
1536mb Nvidia Geforce GTX480 - For around 2 weeks, kept locking up - sent back.
1gb ATi Radeon HD5870 - Bought 2nd hand as a stopgap until HD7000 series but I'm extremely impressed with it, so I'm keeping it for the time being.

Re: The 2012 what graphics cards have you owned thread!
I think it'd be interesting to know which, out of all the cards you've ever owned, you think was the best, for whatever reason..
Out of my list it was probably my 8800GT, paid £130 for it and it lasted me ages and played games REALLY well for the price.

Tough choice, but there were a couple of big jumps.
Ti4200 and 8800GT stick out. OTOH, the Voodoo 1 card was literally a game changer!

9800Pro - at a time when I was just getting into gaming, a card that could run every game I owned with all the pretties turned on (well, except NWN shiny water, that *never* worked on ATI cards) at very smooth frame rates.
The 8800GTX was pretty good, but tbh I probably got it at the wrong time, and I still don't play any games that really need that much graphical oomph: although having the 8800GTX did make my purchase of a 1600x1200 85Hz CRT monitor much more realistic, and that purchase *was* a game changer...
Re: The 2012 what graphics cards have you owned thread!
FX5200.
Radeon 9400 variation.
X1950 Pro 512MB.
GTX 260 (216).
GTX 460(later on SLI'd)
GTX 480.
Although not the bet in terms of cost/performance - I do miss having the brute shading power of 900MHz clocked 460's, especially when that 3DMark11 thread was all the rage. I also had a quick dabble in EF/Surround with them.
Re: The 2012 what graphics cards have you owned thread!
This really show how long some of us have been playing games :)
Voodoo 2
Geforce 256
Geforce 2 Ultra
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
ATI Radeon X1900
Geforce 280
Geforce 480
