4850 replacement with HDMI + 2xDVI?
Hi folks,
I'm looking to replace my 4850. Currently I have two monitor hooked up via DVI but I want to be able to plug it into a TV using HDMI.
Can anyone recommend anything? I'm perfectly happy with performance as I only game occasionally. Although something with lower idle power usage would be good I guess.
Cheers :)
Paul.
Re: 4850 replacement with HDMI + 2xDVI?
Best way to do this would be with a 6770 Flex version from Sapphire, but basically any higher end 5-series of later Radeon will handle this, using an active adapter from a displayport output. However, the Sapphire Flex range have the capability to output from 2xDVI + HDMI natively, something no other current gen card can boast!
p.s. this will have slightly higher gaming performance, and I believe slightly lower power draw, too :D

Cool, thanks very much, price is good too :D

I am using a Sapphire HD 5770 Flex, and this caters for what you are looking for.
Re: 4850 replacement with HDMI + 2xDVI?
The Flex card basically has a display port active adapter built into it.
Although it still leaves you with the issue that it only works with 3 monitors in eyefinity mode AFAIK
this means instead of being treated as separate monitors it's treated as one big monitor.
It's not an issue if all 3 are the same size and resolution but doesn't work that well if you mix and match monitor size and res.
So another option is to plug in a 2nd card, it can be very low power/spec if all you want to do is use the TV for movies and such and don't intend on going for a 3 monitor eyefinity setup for gaming.
