Not in and of itself. But if your system has 4GB of RAM and the graphics card has 1GB of RAM, then having a 64bit OS means you can address everything properly. Modern drivers probably get better performance testing with 64bit these days. It really depends on your system configuration and usage patterns.
Unless you have specific software reasons that cant be dealth with via xpmode or some other virtual environment there really is no excuse not to be running 64bit these days..
Isnt there a small memory and speed disadvantage with 64 bits?
Thank You for the info....I already have 4 GB of memory....I will get a windows 7, 64 bits and install it....and will be looking for a graphic card for my "Dell Dimension 5150" so could a better performance from my "Windows flight simulator X deluxe edition.
Not heard about any speed/memory advantages, but then given he's got 4Gb of RAM already and is lookin for a card that'll run FSX the better card he has the more usable RAM he will loose if he sticks to Win7x32...
In theory, having larger pointers and numbers means you can fit less in cache with slows the machine down, but then in 64 bit mode you get twice the registers which speeds it back up.
Overall it is generally a small gain in speed.
There are a few things like encryption that go way faster. Openssl is I think 4 times faster at RSA in 64 bit mode.
Which you can probably download from the internet so no need to buy the actual media..
Not tried this, but supposedly you can create a universal install media (DVD or USB drive) from your existing media.

Edit to add: I'm sure thats not the tutorial I found last time I looked at this. Search for "ei.cfg removal", seem easier.
