    RE-Dell Dimension 5150 Graphics Card ?

I apologize to all the members of this community that have helped me in trying to find the correct graphics card for my Dell Dimension 5150.... the specifications of the system are still the same as posted in my original Thread but, for one exception..... my mother board does have a PCI Express x16 connector (PEG)......I feel very stupid and sorry about my mistake.....so now I am still looking for a graphics card that will fit in the PCI Express x 16 connector (PEG), and if possible the graphics card should only use no more than 35 Watts of power, because my power supply unit Max. output power is only 230 Watts.
So again I am respectfully asking for your help......Thank You....again!.

    Re: RE-Dell Dimension 5150 Graphics Card ?

With 230W to play with - even with a Pentium 4 - you can probably risk a new Radeon 7750. It's the best gaming card you can get that runs off the power from the PCIe slot, and it's limited to a maximum draw of 75W, which leaves 155W for the rest of your system. As an indicator, my old system with a 3.2GHz Pentium 4 and an 8400GS (a roughly 30W card) used 150W from the mains, so having a 7750 instead should only use an extra 45W max - that'd only be a peak power draw of 195W, well below your PSUs capabilities.

Plus it'd be a good card to carry over to a new build in the future. Any card you buy that only consumes 35W is going to have relatively poor performance (i.e. better than onboard graphics, but not really enough to play flight sims smoothly with good levels of detail)...

    Re: RE-Dell Dimension 5150 Graphics Card ?

I'd be wary of putting in a PCI-e 3.0 card into what is most probably a PCI-e 1.0 motherboard. I tried putting in a 5450 into an HP slimline desktop and it wasn't compatible because HP had decided to stop supporting the motherboard with updates therefore there wasn't a BIOS update that would allow the 2.1 card to be recognised, ended up sending the card back and putting in a GeForce 210.

So I would say if you were to go with a brand spanking new card make sure that your motherboard will support it.

Well thank you for the warning.....but what I am looking for is a card that will fit in my mother board PCI Express x16 slot wich is build in this MOBO...the MOBO also has a PCI Express x1 slot (as you mention tn your Thread)....but I'm going to use the x16 connector slot.

    Re: RE-Dell Dimension 5150 Graphics Card ?

This is a UK site, so difficult for most of us to give good advice on dollar purchases.

As scaryjim said, 7750 is the highest card you could try. It is very new, right at the top of your price range.

It looks like the Nvidia GT430 is a 49W card, so a bit gentler on your machine. Not as fast, but also a lot cheaper. Although this isn't as fast, a quick web search on Flight Simulator X says it is a late 2006 game so by those standards it is a pretty fast card.

Personally I would go with the cheaper card, and save the money. It looks like if you want faster frame rates you would need a faster CPU for that game. For the upcoming Microsoft Flight, it looks like your CPU is below the minimum requirement
