High GPU utilisation issue
I was going to run a game and thought it would be interesting to check temps and performance issues using MSI Afterburner while the game is running. Before I started the game I noticed that for some reason GPU 2 was running at 99% and 70 degrees with my fan at 38% so I ran AMD System Monitor and this also showed GPU 2 at 99%.
I don't understand why this would be, I had no applications running at this time, my CPU utilisation was peaking at 3% and the system showed 1.6gb of RAM in use.
Does anyone know why this might be happening?
Re: High GPU utilisation issue
I'm guessing that you either have something like folding or bitcoin loaded, a tojan/malware is doing the same or your drivers have installed oddly.
Check for running processes.....
Re: High GPU utilisation issue
I've run a scans of my system using Kaspersky, Malware Bytes and Advanced System Care all came up negative for threats. There are no unusual processes running in Task Manager and then restarting and checking again showed 0% on both cores and temps were mid 50s on GPU 1 and mid 40s on GPU 2.
I think I saw it once before and restarting fixed it then, that was about two or three months ago, this is the first time it has happened since then, but I'm started to get concerned as I don't run MSI After all the time and so might be getting high GPU usage more often then I am aware. Is this something I should be concerned about?
Re: High GPU utilisation issue
What version drivers are you using? I cant remember which AMD driver version it was on, but I had a similar problem with my 5850 crossfire setup. High usage went away with a restart, and the problem went away with a driver update with a fix in it.
