    Lucidlogix virtu dual monitor???

    Hi,

Taking delivery of some new parts Monday including an I5 processor and a mainboard with built in vga, so I was reading about Lucidlogix Virtu.

I am quite interested in this and the reason I got a board with bult in graphics, however the board only has a hdmi output which is fine as my main monitor has an hdmi input. However I am using a dual monitor to setup.

So I guess the question is will Lucidlogix Virtu still work and more so where the hell do I put the cable for the second monitor?

    Any help appreciated
    Jon

You can add the second display to the DVI port......although I am assuming you have one.

Might help if you listed the motherboard you are using.

    Re: Lucidlogix virtu dual monitor???

I will add more info to see if anyone has done this or knows how to do it.

Basically I want my primary monitor running through the onboard hdmi and my secondary monitor to be connected to the graphics card.

Now I know you can do this, due to a lot of researching, but what I haven't found is, when I am gaming will the games still run on my primary display with virtu just using the graphics card power or will they all have to be played on the secondary display, which to be frank, isn't what I want as its a smaller, lower resolution display.

    Thanks for any help.

Games will run on whatever is the primary monitor in Windows.

Right-click on desktop and choose "Screen Resolution".....in there you can decide which is the primary.

    Re: Lucidlogix virtu dual monitor???

Ok great thanks for the info, its a :-

Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 and only has one HDMI port which is why I was connecting the other monitor to the graphics card.

So even if the primary monitor is connected to the onboard HDMI port of the motherboard, Lucid will still use the primary display and the power of the discrete card for gaming?

    Re: Lucidlogix virtu dual monitor???

    Define "primary monitor"

You decide what the primary monitor is in windows. Primary will always be main monitor for gaming.

    Re: Lucidlogix virtu dual monitor???

Primary monitor is my 24" HD monitor. Its where the main windows desktop is and where I do all my gaming.

The secondary monitor is a 22" job and basically sits there with outlook or winamp on it.

So the plan is and hopefully from what you said should work is to :-

Plug the HDMI cable from the motherboard to the primary monitor
Plug the DVI cable from the graphics card to the secondary monitor.
Games etc should run on the primary monitor using the power of the graphics card, even though the secondary monitor is attached to the graphics card.

Have I got all that correct?

    Thanks

    Re: Lucidlogix virtu dual monitor???

Here have a read of this http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...?t=1707557&#r7

My understanding, there are two modes
I-mode = this uses the onboard graphics, but kicks in the graphics card when a .exe from the given list is run
To use this mode you have to have the monitor detection set in the BIOS to the Onboard
down sides, slight performance loss, ass software which should use the discrete card needs to be added to the list and compatible.

D-mode = this is just using a discrete card but still having int IGP available for Quick Sync
To use this mode you have to have the monitor detection set in the BIOS to the pci-e slot
Down sides, not much, possible high power demands, however it depends on what graphics card you're using, most current graphics cards run near idle anyway when not gaming so there's little power saved.

Note: I'm going off the listed experience from that thread, the offical intel documents say. http://downloadmirror.intel.com/1999...0Universal.pdf
Note: Please do not connect monitors to the desktop board and graphics card video output connectors simultaneously as this is not a supported Lucid Virtu configuration
ie the only offically supported way to do it is to connect both monitors two ether the motherboard or the graphics card, not both.

This is why you'd want to change the first display setting in the BIOS.
You may need to do some swapping around of cables to get it right.

    Re: Lucidlogix virtu dual monitor???

I read that forum post before posting here and to be honest it confused the hell out of me lol, because I thought I also read in that post that if the d-mode was used it wouldn't use quicksync etc which I need as transcoding a whole library of dvd's to the media server.

Also see I thought what you did at first about what Intel say but I re-read it a couple of times and I think they mean do not have one monitor connected to both the onboard graphics and the graphics card at the same time.

Well all parts have arrived so I guess its time to find out what works and what doesn't, but I will still be back here as the trusty laptop is taking over for a bit lol

Surely it is possible with any Z68 board to run one monitor from the integrated graphics and one from the discrete graphics though, ignoring any Lucid virtu business?

I'm having problems with my rig getting it to run dual monitors and wondering whether it's related.

AFAIK the Z68 is no different from the H61 or H67 in that when you plug in a pci-e card the onboard gpu is automatically deactivated.

    Re: Lucidlogix virtu dual monitor???

Well I am completely confused now, the build went ok, fired up first time, windows installed, lucid virtu software installed but........

It only says I have one display BUT whatever background I have is showing on the second monitor!!! Considering that is the monitor that doesnt exist according the the pc.

Both the Intel graphics drivers and Nvidia say I only have one monitor, confusing or what!

Even more bizarre is I can see both monitors under the Windows control panel, if I click on identify it puts 1 on the main display and 2 on the secondary :/

OMG, now I feel stupid lol

Ok, my main monitor is looking straight at me, the secondary monitor is to the left. So obviously I was trying to move the mouse to the left, but as you can probably guess, the monitor properties are showing the secondary monitor to the right, doh!!!!

Moved it over to the left and all is good. A good hour wasted there lol
