If it is true it could be somewhat disappointing. Only 20% more compute performance than a 7970? I'm not blown away AMD ... give me something more.
Otherwise, that slide says "we're going to make a GPU just like our current top end one but with some tweaks to the architecture and maybe a different number of shaders" - hardly crystal ball stuff I sincerely *hope* it's a fake...
The thing is though the name indicates it is probably part of the current range. Tenerife is part of the Canary Islands.
Odd, though, if they're talking about GCN 2.0, but it might be part of the current series? *shrug* Perhaps it's a minor core tweak for improved efficiency?
Looks very much like idle speculation and cunning photoshop work to me, but I'll keep an interested ear out. 20% boost in compute performance could be acheived simply be overclocking the core to 1.1GHz (since memory bandwidth doesn't affect pure compute grunt) which AFAIK most 7970s will do, so perhaps we're going to see something akin to the 4890, which was basically just a 4870 with a higher stock clock speed. 7980, perhaps? After all, they need to reserve 7990 for the dual-GPU part (I assume...)
Maybe it is more an efficiency tweak to make sure the TDP is within the same level as an HD7970 3GB.
