    Re: Need Graphics card

Are you buying a new graphics for gaming or for video playback?? If it is for gaming,it is most likely an HD6670 GDDR3 which you have mentioned, and not the faster GDDR5 version.

Your current PSU is an unknown ATM as it might not be from a decent OEM.

I would get this graphics card but I am uncertain about your PSU:

    Re: Need Graphics card

If you've got a power supply that isn't capable of running a particular graphics card, then putting that graphics card in might cause the power supply to fail. That could wind up destroying your whole PC, which would be bad

    Re: Need Graphics card

If your psu doesnt provide enough power, connecting more powerful components to it - i.e. loading it beyond its capabilities - will cause it to either shut down so your pc wont start (good quality psu's will have this protection), OR the psu will burn out (if its poor quality).

Looking at your 'JamesWilson2's system' info, you currently say you have a "g7 power extreme 580w psu"...

This is NOT a quality unit, and does not have any suitable connections (it has no 6 or 8 pin pci-express plugs) for plugging in a decent power graphics card... so the one CAT-THE-FIFTH linked to (which is a nice card) simply wont work.

You would however be able to add a lower powered gpu that draws power purely from the pci-e slot - such as the 6670 you mentioned in your first post - as long as your system total doesnt go over your psu's rated wattage (which looking at it is likely MUCH lower han 580w).

    Re: Need Graphics card

Well based on the system you've listed, I guestimate your current power drain to be approx 230-250w maximum (thats everything at full load, all HDD's spun up etc)... so even if your current psu is only good for 450w you've plenty of leway to add the 6670.

Anything with more 'oomph' will need a new psu though, as you havent got the connections to plug them in

What do you want a graphics card for? If you arent going to use it, theres no point forking out for a new psu and a graphics card you'll never see the benefit of!

Volar, it does help if you actually read the entire thread before commenting. Its already been stated that the PSU is a "g7 power extreme 580w psu". Thanks.
