Unhappy I don't know what to do!

This thread comes from a conversation in another thread.

Basically, when I go to uni (in a year... I'm one for planning,) there's no way I'm gonna have room for two CRT's. However, right now I have a 15" and a 19" CRT, doing a lovely job in a dual monitor setup.

    There are two problems:

    1. I don't want to downgrade.
    2. I don't want to spend a bomb.

So, I can probably do 1 of 3 things:

    1. Take the 19" CRT and do away with duallie monitors
    2. Replace the 19" CRT with a 19" TFT
    3. Buy two 17" TFT's and maintain dual monitor goodness

Now, to do anything but the first option, I'm going to have to sell my existing monitors. The 15" will probably get £20 or less, and the 19" maybe £60.

Anyway, what do you think the best course of action is, especially seeing as though the price of TFT's is always falling. I'm not a hugely heavy gamer, but I do use my PC's a lot and enjoy that odd LAN session.

    Thanks for your help guys

    Kez.

Use two 17" TFTs. Viewable area of a 17" TFT is only slightly less than a 19" CRT so you won't notice the loss, and 17" TFTs are at a good price now.

Ask your self, is it really necessary, or is it a gratuity? Most importantly, how much extra enjoyment does a dual setup give you? If the answer is "lots more" then do whatever it takes. If the answer is "a bit" then you can probably do without. Just my two pence.

TeePee that's the logic I applied to a 17" TFT: the viewable area.

R.B. you make a good point. I really prefer being with dual monitors. I handle a vast number of e-mails and have a huge array of websites open at any one time. Being able to offload my e-mail program and other tools onto a secondary monitor makes life so much easier.

    Maybe I'll go with a 17" and a 15" TFT... hmmmm.

The Hercules Propetview 17" TFT has a 0.1 inch larger viewing area than my mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930 SB 19" CRT. Just get two 17" TFT's.

Also, if it's a year from now then why not wait 'til end of the year?

get a 17" tft and a 15" tft? 15" ones are quite a bit cheaper and would be bigger than your old 15" crt..

hmmm well to save money bear in mind you could get a lesser quality TFT for yor secondary display as it wont have to display games etc..... you could still get them looking very similar too....

19" tfts that affordable are still behind in panel quality / response times...

15" tfts are pointless, as the prices are being kept artificially high by low production

i dont know why im putting a link in since you wont buy for a year.

    I just love posting links.

I would say get 2 x 17" and dont upgrade till you can get a 20" 1600x1200 panel for £10.

    good luck planning

Oh yeah and dont forget that panel prices are due to crash around the end of the year so it should b a really good time to buy. 2 x 17" shouldnt be too much of a problem. I would gues they would be dipping to 150/175....

    I await the crash...

    Cheers guys - I'll probably go with a 17" and a 15" or two 17", one cheaper.
