    Intel "Extreme" Graphics

    I recently built a new P4 shuttle. I used the Shuttle RefleXion, 1Gb Corsair RAM and a 3Ghz P4. Now when I built it up it was fine (apart from a few probs which are now sorted) but yesterday I noticed it wasn't performing as well as my other AMD Shuttle rig http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/...=16531&cat=558
    Now i'm using the intergrated graphics on both rigs and the Shuttle RefleXion isn't very impressive in Photoshop, would this be due to the intergrated graphics on the RefleXion? (which I think has Intel Extreme Graphics)

    You running it on a TFT or CRT? Some integrated graphics suck with TFT's.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Its running on a cheapo TFT my dad bought awhile back. Its not really the quality that is bothering me, like on my other shuttle it will display thumbnails pretty quick, just load 'em in and in photoshop if i select 3 or 4 they are open within seconds whereas on the RefleXion it loads all the images and takes awhile and then it will only show me the image once the entire selection is loaded.
    I'm thinking that is the graphics because it says reading JPEG format and has a progress bar when I open stuff in PS, it doesnt do that on my other shuttle.
    Is that graphics problems or just appilcation problem/difference?

    The "Intel Extreem Graphics" is a total piece of crap. It's on par with a TNT2. Still photoshop should not be affected much.

    Hi r1zeek

    Integrated graphics tend to be a bit of a mixed affair. For 3D performance, they tend to be somewhat lacking, but for most 2D things they're usually fine.

    What you're describing doesn't really sound like a graphics problem as such, but given that your system specs are so powerful, it seems a bit odd. Load times are usually governed by things such as RAM (especially in Photoshop) and your CPU etc. Have you checked your BIOS settings, say, to make sure everything is configured correctly? Talking of BIOS, in the settings will be one for the amount of memory the integrated graphics is permitted to use. Make sure this isn't set so high that it could deprive normal programs.

    Other than that, I'm not really sure what to suggest.

    Sorry I can't be of more help

    Yeah, never really like Intel "Extreme" Graphics, they are about as extreme as cold tea. It is, like Jonty says, very very weird as my system is powerful enough. Most of the work I do is over a network anyway (to and from a file server) and that has always been fast. It still doesnt really like photoshop that much though, even though i've installed a new graphics card, a Gf4 Mx440 it hasnt improved much. I'm going to try and trim my RAM timings in awhile, they are pretty high at the moment.
    Only other thing I can think of is my hard drive, its an old Seagate SATA drive, makes a fair bit of noise now, never used to, its about a year old. If I have money to burn sometime this summer I might just get a Raptor to help it out.
    Cheers guys

    It could be the drive, or maybe you've got nackered chipset drivers resulting in poor performance? Try the latest set.

    Any linkage to the latest chipset drivers, didn't think intel was bothered to release new chipset drivers, unlike a certain company that shall remain nameless *cough* nvidia *cough*
    I'm not sure what chipset the Shuttle RefleXion is though, anyone know?
